Should these be blocked up with rubber bungs? Just taking exhaust off to clean up as it's all been fitted with exhaust sealant and a mess and noticed these rubber bungs. Also note that the exhaust has been getting mega hot, so hot the heat exchangers are going white. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
someone has put them in there to stop the airflow through the heat exchangers which in turn stops any neat coming into the cab. maybe your heat exchangers were leaking. so no they shouldnt be in there but you need to investigate why they are in there
Thanks people, also noticed we have no cooling flaps, another reason the engine is getting hot! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes I still do these either single or pair ..I also supply VW Heritage with a few hundred pairs a year
You need flaps if you have the aux fan as they prevent hot air being blown back in to engine when at idle
On another note: Is there something missing on the end of the fan shroud casting (4 bolts)? And is there usually any more tinware around the oil cooler? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nothing missing off the end, its where an AC compressor can be bolted if it is ever fitted. i think the oil cooler is missing the brackett that supports it. it will bolt into the top left hand of the 4 bolts
Where that masking tape is ...there should be a steel pipe entering the top of the heat exchanger....and a pipe going to it from the snail fan at the top in the engine bay. Your best looking at a fully working heating and cooling system on a type 4 ....looks like your missing under tins too ....All of it is important .
I have the steel pipes and the fan they were just not fitted to get through an mot for registering. What does the oil cooler bracket look like? Has anyone got a pic of one insitu? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've got one on the garage if you want it. I'll dig it out and do a pic later on Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Also looking for a set of cooling flaps. In the states on this engine they'd left in the oil cooler flap and welded it down. Anyone got a set? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
