Type 4 head cork gasket valve cover replacement

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by lhu1281, Nov 7, 2017.

  1. sorry its camper related thread ( these seem to be getting fewer recently)

There was talk that a rubber /Viton replacement for the cork valve cover would be available a while ago .
Did this happen or do I have to make my own ?

  2. If you find some sheets I’ll laser cut them, the cork ones are awful

    Double post:rolleyes:

  5. Can you laser cut silicone /rubber ? I don`t think you can !!! it would be either water jet cut or punched /moulded

  6. Interested in this also. Want a fit and forget gasket that doesn't deform istanatly and slip off the head mating surface. Ones ive had over the last few year have been okay bordering on a bit poor and require patience to get em on right. once done they are fine but only confident with them for a single use only. And by that I means - once fitted they tend to not sela properly if you have the covers off again.

  7. I have cut rubber before just need to take it easy with the power

  8. Ive only seen it micro water jet cut ......(I must talk work in to buying one ) .......the C&C ones must be moulded other wise the waste is huge

Discount code tlb1405 should work but you may have to get them to update it when you order (I did).

I had the same problem with even Elring and Victor Reinz cork gaskets and found them single use only. I have alloy rocker covers which makes it worse but the silicone gaskets are a nice fit, no leaks and the covers can be removed and refitted.

  11. Sounds like the way to go.

  12. If we can get the material I can make a mould and make some gaskets, I couldn’t see the cost at C&C but could be potentially be cheaper

  14. Don`t forget the 6 quid post ......I sent a drawing away for a quote today to gauge an idea on price ,water jetted ...I don`t think they will be much cheaper but looking at the picture from C&C they buy theirs from the U/S and they don`t look machine cut ???

What was the quality like ? I presume they were 1/8" thick so i asked for a quote of 3 and 4mm

standard silicon is up to 200 degrees C and will withstand occasional 250 deg

  15. if you look on egay sheet silicone isn`t that cheap ?

  16. I was thinking of FKM, oil resistant and can do 250c.

  17. I was going to make a mould and inject them, I’ll have a look at liquid silicone.

They’re manufactured in Germany and are moulded.
Good quality – I wouldn’t have fitted them if they weren’t.
I didn’t measure them but circa 4mm thick, more than 1/8” anyway.
No problem with temperature, the combustion chamber temp will be more than 200c but the heads are cooler out at the rockers.

  19. I have a quote .

10 off white silicone rubber water jet cut 4mm thick +/- 0.3 @ £6.60 each delivered to me ....... add a couple off quid to post out £15.20 a pair

I need 2 sets so would need 3 other people to take a bit of a chance as to just buy one pair with the delivery is not viable .....

@The Little Camper Company can you do them cheaper/better than that inc. a mould etc.
