  4. So have you posted it then?

  5. To be fair, they're probably all goldfish who have a very short working memory and presumably barely adequate lighting. Be a little more considerate.

  7. They do it all the time, tried to sell a rowing machine on eBay I said same collection only ... winning bid came from some *****er in Romania he offered me an extra tenner to drive it 25 miles for dropping off at an industrial estate ... I told him to get stuffed and reported him to eBay ... whether they ever did anything I'll never know ... I believe they buy cheap here taking advantage of the exchange rate load up in a shipping container and ship back to their own country.

  8. In the interests of a balanced discussion....the buyers' point of view...

Would you expect the likes of VWH, etc. to say the products they sell from their online shop, or even through eBay, were for collection only...?

Why should a 'private seller' be any different?

I think that if one wants to take advantage of a potentially global pool of buyers, then one must accept the responsibility that a global delivery option should also be provided. If the seller doesn't want to commit to that, then a more locally targeted for-sale ad would be appropriate....Exchange & Mart, perhaps.

    IMHO...

Because a private seller probably has another job and doesn't have time for all the faff of packaging the goods, arranging a courier and getting insurance.

A trader, like VWH, is despatching hundreds of items every day and has a well oiled, tried and tested delivery service.

There's nothing wrong with a private individual stipulating buyer collect, especially for bulky or delicate items. Surely TLB is not the only club to have its own national courier service!

They'd be perfectly entitled to provide no delivery option though.
As such, those that chose to buy from them would know that they had to arrange collection....
It should be fairly simple to understand that "Will not post. Collection only" means "Will not post. Collection only"

  12. Can you tell me what it is you are trying to say,as that could easily be referring to that time when you posted something

I find Collection Only posters on eBay have to put up with much lower bids.

Like the VW engine block and rust I paid £51 for and collected from Barry in South Wales. I was the only bidder when another similar one for sale with a courier option went for about £150 after a lot of bids...

The Welsh seller wasnt a happy bunny about the price. His loss for refusing to put effort into the selling process. His loss my gain. My point.

I tend to use the distance nearest first filter when looking for stuff that I think will be to big/heavy to post, then I can take a judgement on how far I’m prepared to go to collect !

  15. Another gem is folk who win a collection-only item, then tell you they'll arrange their own courier. "When is this bloke going to arrive, as I can't hang around all day." "Ooooh, don't know. Sometime in the afternoon, maybe."

After being messed around countless times, I add a note to the description saying I'll cancel their bid if they don't come and collect stuff. Even that doesn't seem to stop them, mind...

  16. do you deliver to nn5 ..?

  19. Sometimes the thing being sold is a big ***** off bit of kit and to wrap is impractical for a private seller. As someone has said as a seller you offer collection only knowing the pool off purchasers will be smaller and hence the price you achieve less. TBH given my experience I just lob most things in the dustbin than having to deal with illiterate people that cant read and comprehend SIMPLE instructions.

I've got a 16v golf engine block on there at the moment, and have got to the point of agreeing a lower offer, after he said he can collect this weekend etc etc.... then nothing, then a message where are you , I need to see how far it is, - it's listed very clearly in the ad... I'm just waiting for the 'can you deliver?'
