whats your best cheap fix?

years ago I had a brand new vw panel van.The accelerator cable disappeared underneath the van.so I did the string out of the window to carb linkage thing ,and drove 20 miles home

 

Did a similar thing in the late 70s with my imp, broken throttle cable passed thru the rear window, my mate in the back doing throttle, me in the front driving. Got us to the gig, trouble was going home he was pis*** - slightly merry, ended up having to replace cable and brake shoes from trying to slow it down !!

 

Renault 4 accelerator pedal hinge rusted out and fell off out in Surrey ,had to get home to east London. So I tied the pedal to my foot and pretended it was still connected . Got me home too round m25, but was hell running in for a wee, dragging a Renault 4 behind

 

During my apprenticeship I had to drive a Lada Samara from the dealership in Plymouth to Exeter, half way there it started to rain really heavy but the wipers failed to work, so to get the rest of the way I removed the wiper blade and drove with one arm out the window doing it manually

 

Once I drove home after a night out in the early hours of the morning all the way in reverse in a 1968 Mini Traveller as the gear lever broke on me.

It was about a 3 mile journey and included a couple of roundabouts!

A mini van I had for work once ,the gearbox dropped of its mountings and I had a length of waste through the floor to leaver it back up so I could change gear.reverse was the most annoying,it meant a elbow or knee on the pipe while reversing,The same van froze me in one night ,doors ,windows the whole freeking lot .i had to crowbar the rear doors to get out .
