I want to cut down the length of my virgin fibre optic cable, a look on www says I can just cut to length and fit new " f connectors" which kind of screw on to the cable. The connectors are only a couple of quid for loads. The current connectors seem to be fitted differently though, not sure if this is something I should arse around with? Or get virgin in to do it? Anybody done this themselves? Not sure if its the same for sky cables etc.
If it's the cables that connect to the V box and router, you can easily cut them down probably reusing the existing connectors.
In the house back in my days it was just coaxial and I made me own cables to go in which room , I even opened up the box on the outside wall and found a one into two splitter so replaced it with a one into three splitter and ran a lead to the bedroom.
Its the cable(s) which screws into wall socket, this goes to an attenuator (whatever the hell that is), then one cable to TiVo box and one cable to router. Yeah I don't think the connectors are reusable, the screw on ones which are avaible at the shops appear to be not quite up to the same standard
I cut through the cable running around the side of our house last year with the garden clippers, I rang Virgin and they came and fixed it for nowt next day, while he was here I told him my Tv box was freezing a lot and he changed that as well for free
There's always virgin vans on our road as there's a street box, next time i see one I'll ask him a favour, give him a tenner if necessary... Hundred quid my arse
Thing is we're kind of stuck with virgin here, only alternative would be sky but its not a good enough alternative to actually change over.... Anyway, by chance I just found the appropriate ready made cable in the right length on amazon, for a fiver! Didn't even think to look for that! Sorted!
