Me and one of my best buddies are off on Tuesday night to go to watch a bit of Footy and explore France a little. Basic plan was to go to Lens first but then the alcohol ban meant we would then head for Lille. But as the Russians are hell bent on kicking everyone's head in we're sacking that off and going straight to Paris to sample the fan park there for the England v Wales game. The fan park is right next to the Eiffel Tower. Then we're heading south ish and might go to Le Man for the racing....but not sure yet. We've had a couple of kind offers from TLB members for bus stopovers @Tuesday wildchild & @Borninabug thanks for the offers. We have no solid plans so will be in touch if we venture into your neck of the woods. I have fully comp AA European cover but hopefully won't need it. This is my vehicle These are my supplies And this is the cockpit, armrests may come in handy (shame I didn't have time to re-cover them) Just waiting on my cab carpets to arrive tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on.
So, after a night time drive to Dover last night I developed an air leak on the carb. Sorted that out this morning and finally made the ferry The extra security at Dover meant we missed the ferry and got put on the next one but it took us to Dunkirk instead of Calais. Drove down through Amiens to just outside Paris and found a campsite with space for us Off to Paris fan park tomorrow to watch the match.
Pretty sure you can get general entry ticket at the main entrance, probably need a car park or camping pass too. Wouldn't leave it till Saturday morning though it'll be filling up from tomorrow, years ago we got tickets at a local Tabac not sure if that's still possible
If you do get there try and get out to Arnage village Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening, great atmosphere loads of bars, food and cars I'm completely jealous now and wishing we were there again
Got to Paris and had a scream in the fan park. Mixed with the Welsh lads and had a good drink with them. Walked up the Eiffel Tower a bit worse for wear Traveled from Paris to Le Mans today. The camping is sold out but everyone is camping by the road side. We've parked up for the evening and going in to watch the race tomorrow. Porsche have pole position I think so should be interesting. Currently raining here but we're nursing hangovers and going to watch a film tonight.
Le Mans was fun but couldn't stay til the end as we had travelling to do. So south we went towards St Etienne. A Bugatti on a demo lap. I'll upload some pics of the racing off my camera when I'm back. Stopped for a sarnie just outside Ruffec Saw this while we had stopped The drive took us through the Lois Valley which is beautiful. We finally stopped by the river near La Creuse What a rubbish camping spot!!!!! The following day (Monday) we headed for St Etienne for the England game, what a shower of rubbish that result was!! This is where we stopped Off north to Dijon tomorrow on our staggered trip back. I'll keep you updated.
This was a view just after leaving St Etienne We stopped in Dijon for two nights. Had a nosey round the centre, had a few beers and tried to not get too sunburnt. It was 33 degrees both days From Dijon we headed for Reims It was so hot driving in the blistering heat Picked up some pressies in Reims but decided not to camp there We then headed for Lens to watch a couple of games up there
