I have a new Weaco/Dometic CRX50 and thought I would do a comparison with the CR50. The reason I am changing is that my CR50 developed a small fault - the green and red warning LEDs stopped working. The fridge worked fine but I thought I would get it sorted under warranty. After nearly a year of emails, and the supplier having a right moan at Dometic, the manufacturer has decided to swap out the complete fridge as a good will gesture. The CRX50 got delivered this morning and as I have both sitting in my utility room at the moment I thought I would do a comparison. CR50 CRX50 The fridges are the same size. The main difference is how they work. The CRX50 has a digital controls and claims it has a more finer control of temperature meaning it can save up to 25% energy compared with the old models. The freezer unit base tray is removable meaning more internal space for chilled food. There is a claim you can use the whole fridge as a freezer, but I can't see that mentioned in the instructions. It also has a more chamfered cabinet back to cope with clearing vehicle/boats sides. You may have also spotted the the CRX50 is badged as a Dometic and no longer a Waeco. There is a noticeable difference at the back. The CR50 has a much larger cooling matrix and a smaller fan, where the CRX50 cooler is smaller, has a larger cooling surface area due to the amount of fins and a larger fan. Both use the same compressor pump. CR50 CRX50 Both units can be run directly off the mains with an optional voltage converter, but if you already have an on-board leisure battery and mains charger, there is little point in buying it as you will still be topping up the battery when on hook-up. I believe both take the same fitting frame (I hope so as I about to use the one that came with the CR50). Battery consumption-wise will have to wait until I go camping later this spring - probably Techenders. The CR50 used to last a weekend easily on a year old 110ah leisure battery, so hopefully the new one will use less. We will see. http://www.waecofridges.co.uk/crx50.htm
If they don't collect the CR, let me know. I bought a working one second hand but there are a few bits I'd like for it to tidy it up. So if it ends up as spares or repair kind of thing think of me. Cheers Paul
Unfortunately, they are arranging a pick up. I would have bought the faulty circuit board and sold the whole fridge on...
I have just done the same for the same reasons the new one does seam a lot quieter and having its own on/off switch is better
Would love one but even I, with my random excuses can't justify their price Sure new one will be an improvement on the old one
I have been running a Crx 50 since last year. It's near as damn it silent except for the moment when the compressor kicks in on the thermostat, but that's not loud even then. Have run it for 4 days straight on the leisure battery without complaint. The removable freezer unit is handy.
I was reading this thinking hummm, these sound good. Just looked up the price. Best part of £500!! You can buy a bloody American style one for your kitchen for that! Jesus.
I've got a perfectly good old Electrolux 3way; I just thought one of these new fangled things would look a bit tidier. At £500 I'll forget the idea! Just goes to show, we really are mugs when it comes to buying bits for these bloody buses.
I guess it depends on how long it lasts.....your Electrolux was probably a similar price proportionally, how many decades old is it?
There's no way 2 led's is 9 degrees. My beer is properly cold. Also what would be the point. 9 degrees is pointless.
