Hello one and all, New to all this... hoping to have our own T2 very soon. We're looking at one tomorrow in Coventry and other than knowing where to hang the bunting, we know precious little about bodywork and the mechanics. Our VW restorer is unable to come with us tomorrow, so I was wondering if there was anyone out there in the vicinity of CV8 at 6pm to come and help us view the van we're hoping to buy. I'll pm details. Thanks in advance.
Ow do. Too far away to help, but hope it's a good un tomorrow. Walk away if it ain't right. Remember , head over heart.
Take a magnet with you and place everywhere on body, if the magnet drops of, there is no metal just filler and just walk away.
Take loads of pics. Post them on here. Plenty of people have been warned off by posting pics of a shiney munter on here. Ignore the nice shiney paint. Take lots of pics of the underside. Go in old clothes as you should start at the bottom and work your way up. If it’s smothered in black under seal, or has old belly pans on it then probably walk away. I looked at a splitty last year that had underseal on it so thick there was literally bits of road gravel stuck in it. Warning sign! Depending on what engine it’s got, give the pulley closest too you a good old tug, if there’s loads of play in it then walk away. Check the gutters carefully, battery tray area, cab steps and round the windows especially closely.
So helpful - thank you. We walked away as there was too much wrong (in our eyes) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
£15k and it hasn't even got a headliner? Jes. If that rot under the window is symptomatic of the rest of the van, it looks like you did the right thing. Was it this one? https://www.gumtree.com/p/campervan...ew-roof-full-width-rock-n-roll-bed/1297685518
If it is this one it claims to have just been restored.... Looking at it I'd say more "bodged to sell on." https://onetwodeal.co.uk/advert/1972-volkswagen-baywindow-t2-2018-06-07-20-53-41
Do you think we’ll find a decent T2 (body work & engine) for £10k or are we deluding ourselves. The first one we saw needed total renovation. It was £4K but was a Q plate - so we walked from that one too. Beginning to lose heart now & think the only T2 I’ll ever own is a dinky toy. We hired a T2 Danbury (Diamond layout) & fell in love. Ideally we want exactly the same but we don’t want to spend more than £10k. Do you think there’s anything out there for us? We’ve reduced our criteria is a good engine, good bodywork, a Poptop/ RHD /mains hook up / leisure battery. If it’s cheap enough we can put a Diamond type kitchen in at a later stage & make do with none or the original Devon layout. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They do come up at that sort of money but depends what you want. An MOTd runner you shouldn't have a problem, but at that sort of money its likely to need stuff doing in the not too distant. £4k I'd expect a basket case. Also bare in mind that the spend on these things is pretty endless!
You should find a pretty decent van for that. Just give it another month when some sell cheap rather than store for the winter.
