A Bus has now been bought. Thanks for looking Some friends are after a camper van. First Choice is a bay window. 2nd Choice would be a T25. Let me know what you have please. Useful info: Budget approx 15k. I've told them they should be prepared to pay more for the right the right van. My view is there is no point spending £12k on a bus that will then potentially need £9k spending on it. They will consider spending more for the right one. Family is: A Big/tall man, normal sized partner, 3 yr old child, Medium dog! He needs a pop top that he can put a proper bed in for his daughter. A rear hinged roof from a later westy would be ideal. Of course it would be possible to fit the right roof to any van, this would cost time and money but would be considered if the rest of the van was right. I'm helping with his search as i've owned a bay for 25years+ I also know the true cost of restoring a bay, having done that in 2002. Hence why im telling them to buy the best they possibly can. They will also get experts to thoroughly check out any bus before shelling out the money. Cheers for looking Paul
Are they first time camper owners? If so, if they may be better off with T25 given its more modern suspension and steering, feels a bit more like a modern vehicle. May get more for your money with a T25 vs. a bay?
T25 would be a better choice or even a modern front engined T4 or T5 which could be serviced by any garage. Current Bay prices are holding firm and there won't be many for sale matching your spec. for 15k. They can't expect to buy a perfect condition van for 15k and not keep spending on it over time as you know from personal experience.
I agree they would get a much better T25 for there money, but number one choice is still a bay. I've told them up the budget and get a decent Bay Or get a decent T25 They are still looking for a Bay!
I agree, with their budget a T25 or later would be better. They would also get more for their cash if they went non VW. She has always wanted an old camper, he is more open to a T25. My personal experience was bought a solid bay for £2k in approx 1997, used it for 5 years or so, everyone told me it was solid, i decided i would keep it for life and then had it restored properly in 2002 at great expense for more than i could have bought a new one for. I did this with my eyes wide open. The ones i've seen so far in their budget, are not as solid or decent as the one I bought even before i had it restored. If i was them id just bite the bullet and get the best that is out there. If they don't like the camper experience then they won't lose that much if they re sell it.
I always think it’s funny. It’s a T2 forum, the buyer is looking for a T2 (or T25 as a second choice), and the advice they get is to buy a T25 or T4/5!
Their second choice is a T25 so one is being considered and many on here have T25's, T4's and T5's so our forum is a mixed bag, that's why its such a good forum.
