As my bed area is 6'3" X 5'0", I thought I'd buy a 4" foam mattress and cut it into 3 for my cushions. I found an eBay seller with a choice of three. Reflex foam £90 Memory foam £105 Cool memory foam £115 (obviously has a slick haircut and nice clothes). Can anyone recommend any or none of these, please?
I got my foam from this place, GB39H is the foam I used https://www.gbfoamdirect.co.uk/foam-cut-to-size/foam-shapes/sofa-cushion-foam/
No experience of those but you could try this chap for made to measure. You can explain to him what sort of bed you like and discuss the right foam. Not sure of prices but was reasonable last time I bought from him! https://www.tony-tex-nottingham.co.uk/
I got my foam from GB foam. Check the website for info on different types. Easy to use and a great service.
Just a suggestion, Mrs P when she makes seats and come to think of it our r n r bed, she used a thick, dense, firm middle layer and on both outer sides a thinner softer layer. Giving both firm support and soft comfort.
I've seen suggestions of this, with a memory foam layer on a firmer base foam, but why would you put a softer layer underneath?
I use 75mm memory foam glued to a 50mm firm foam base, so it keeps us off the hard bed boards underneath. It is also comfortable to sit on, as I am now, I just turned round and looked inside the covers to check.
That's the sort of thing Mike. I can only use 100mm total with my Rusty Lee bed, so I figured 50mm of each with the memory foam on top. Curious as to why anyone would put an inch of memory foam underneath?
Would not worry about the cool, menopause bonus possibly. Stiffness colour coding is the challenge - Soft enough to lie on, but firm for sitting.
My bed used to be comfy with 4 inch foam. Mines the grey stuff. Don’t use the blue… it’s rubbish. Due to infirmity i could do with a topper really for a better nights sleep. Likely I will go with a double mattress topper from IKEA or similar!
Ok, grey not blue. Still curious about two layers of firm foam + memory foam (50mm of ea), wondering if that will do what you're trying to do retrospectively.
Up to the limit of foam depth for my hinges and don’t want to start again from scratch….. mucho dinero!
Speak to mr foam chap. Very common to use more than one type! To get it soft enough yet firm enough that you aren’t on the metal of the bus or timber of your seat for that matter!
I bought memory foam. My skinny arris went right through to the boards after an hour or so. Chucked it. Replaced it with... harder stuff - now too hard to sleep on and TBH too hard to sit on too. Don't go with recommendations for such and such a colour - they're all different. Best to find a local place (they're quite common) take templates, sit on the foam to try it and leave with what you wanted.
It sure is, that place do some pre cut sizes for campers, but mine was cut to size. I’d recommend you go along somewhere if you can and test some different foams out and see what works best for you.
