Hope its not like the VW beetle saving scheme that Hitler had.
Default on one jab, and have to start all over again.
So many people will lose out on their promised toaster.

The old boys and girls used to swear blind that a tot of whisky everyday was good enough to thin the blood. (Although, my 88 year old mother says a couple of garlic capsules does the same thing! (Ex nurse)).Old School.

  4. I just had a bit of a chill and a cough that started on thursday night. By Friday night i was just left with a cough and an ache behind my eyes when i moved them.
Fran got her booster a week ago so she's got it a little milder with just a cough and aching eyes.

Got it from my sister inlaw who doesn't believe in getting the vaccine (neither do a load of her friends) but will quite happily pay for Ivermectin, an antiparasitic worming drug as someone online said it works.
She was at a wedding the weekend before and virtually everyone there was unvaccinated from the sound of it and nearly all came down with covid (its classed as one of Pembrokeshires biggest superspreader events).
She couldn't get out of bed for nearly a week with it but is still not gonna get jabbed as she now believes shes immune so doesn't need it.

Inlaws were off on their holibobs to Norway yesterday but got as far as Dover where they were getting the ship and are now having to come back today as they need to self isolate. £8k worth of cruise cancelled at the last minute. Not sure if they'll get any money back or not.

I feel your pain. I have similar family members. Funnily enough I've not seen them for a while and have no plans to do so in the near future

  7. We have an issue coming up at Christmas with F-I-L, he has had his vaccinations but his partner she thinks its all a conspiracy/she has a strong immune system.
I have wormed our dogs and neither of them has covid, so clearly merits in this approach

  9. I see the CEO of Moderna has publicly hinted at reduced efficacy of not just his company's but all jabs against Omicron; it's got the 'markets' spooked, certainly, tho they will undoubtedly recover when the hedgies finish applying their positive feedback loops :(

  10. I know its frustrating to catch it in what seems to be a reckless way, but your sister in law contracted it similarly to how people used to catch flu. People forget that real flu would leave you bed bound for several days and it wasn't that long ago that the flu jab was only routinely given to the frail and elderly.

By next Sunday I will have had three Covid vaccinations in about 9 months, with many more people getting called up for a booster against this latest strain that initial reports from Africa suggests has mild symptoms.

There will surely come a time when we all have to take our chances, albeit in a responsible, considerate way?

It's probably not all that helpful to assume that having the vaccine renders you immune to catching and spreading the virus then carry on as ever. Helpful yes, and what else can we do, but that (in some cases) false sense of security is conceivably helping spread the virus. Then there's the ever growing list of new variants of course. Be careful out there and assume the worst - this virus is not only spread by deniers, as tempting as it is to put yourself the right side of the fence and point the finger of accusation. :)

What has this to do with me? Please don't make assumptions about me, you don't know me.

The vaccine, according to the Lancet, is somewhere between 50-70% effective after 4-5 months in reducing hospital admissions. Even after having it, it's 90% effective in the first month (in reducing hospital admissions). So it does work and quite well, but it's far from a panacea and vaccination still leaves at best 10% of people catching it and becoming ill enough to be admitted to hospital and after 4-5 months as many as 50%. Vaccination is not a cure for those people.

The biggest take for me is the "I'm all right Jack" mentality it IS effective in producing. What I mean is the engendered worry free attitude that causes many vaccinated peeps to be out there spreading a virus because they want to think they'll personally be ok. Seriously - though vaccinations have helped hugely, this ain't over yet. Please do carry on wearing your masks in shops, not coughing at old folk, reducing your foreign travel etc. For all we know the biggest help so far might be simply the reduced personal interactions between people. :)
