Seem to have been collecting loads of parts for the bus and the bug lately, but not getting time to fit them. Finally started this afternoon.
Still the original steel brake pipes, came off a treat. Also got to use a genuine Hazet workshop brake adjuster tool recently given to me by and old VW mechanic
Changed the gearbox oil. Bought enough to do the camper as well. Handy suction tool was only £7 from eBay. Made the job a lot easier.
Looking for some paint advice. Still using the bug throughout the winter and as a result it’s in desperate need of a makeover. I’ve got a set of wings to go on some time in the spring. I’m reasonably sure they will go on without any major work to the body but the floor pan is flaky and rusty in patches. The plan is the clean and paint the floor pan and inner wings. So what’s the best way to go about prep and paint?
I'm just starting out on the 'what to use' journey, but Epoxy mastic/paints have been grabbing my attention recently. Have you thought about these?
Heard of them but don’t know anything about them. Just started asking and looking. Hopefully get started in the next few weeks
Everyone will have a different opinion on products, but the process is pretty much the same if your not cutting out anything… clean up as best you can with wire wheels/ brushes / strip discs… apply rust converter… coat with non porous paint. Under the floor and arches, I would then stone chip with something like Wurth underbody .. avoid cheap stonechip, as it tends to flake or react with other products
