My '79 Mk2 Escort still had one, and from memory I'm pretty sure my Mum's Volvo 340GL did too - I think it was Y reg (1982); I bought a slightly newer Volvo 360GLS (B reg) and it had fuel injection: very exciting!
My 1993 VW T4 2.4D has a manual 'choke' on diesel engine. I actually think it advances or retards the mechanical diesel pump in this instance.
My brother had a 1995 T4 1.9 non turbo diesel and that had a 'cold start' choke cable type thing too Purely mechanical injection pump, no ECU to speak of.
Zero ecu on this model - all mechanical. When they are set up correctly with a dti they operate well but its a very precise piece of kit
T3 diesel's have them as well. Supposedly for use in temps below -15! Pulling the handle advances the injection pump timing by a handful of degrees. Ours isn't connected on the doka as it's an early T4 1X non-turbo 1.9 diesel conversion but if the glow plugs are in good order it's superfluous
I used to drive a mechanically controlled diesel car with two failed glow plugs. When it once got to -5 C outside a bunk house in the Lake District near Keswick it wouldnt start.. (only electrical part in the fuel system was a shutoff solenoid. When ULSD appeared, the rubber tip fell off the valve and the engine had to be stalled to stop it)
Oi! I might have a handbag. For special occasions. Weddings. Funerals. To dance around at 1980s school reunions. etc
Indeed I do. and dresses. There's a time and a place for everything. And 1980s school reunions is definitely the time and place for dancing around one's handbag!
For a cheap decent safe degreaser Elbow Grease works well. If using slow evap panel wipe degreaser(acetone) use a metal tray- disposable aluminum food tray if you can't steal kitchen pots...
Maybe too obvious but no one has mentioned the dellorto book by Bob tomlinson. Most answers to anything dellorto - is in there. Actually worth what it cost. Mind you it does say not to strip the spindles...
Ill check it out. Kinda had no choice removing the spindle though. Just buzzed it all through the ultrasonic cleaner. Will post pics shortly
I wouldn't waste your money, it covers just about every carb Dellorto made, there's one page on your carbs and it it tells you how to set the floats incorrectly. Anything else it has to offer you already know.
I couldn't find it for sale anywhere anyway! Noticed you'd struggled to find it back in 2014 after a search of the forum so just as well really
