All in the title - can't seem to find the standard lower bolt dimensions anywhere - the don't seem to be sold in the normal places like the uppers.... Any clue wise peeps?
found it at last. anyone interested in the future its an M12 93(ish)mm long, the smooth shoulder is 52(ish)mm long. All the usual dealers seem to be around £6 a bolt + washers and nuts. Making it a very expensive job! Stone T E ltd (hardware shope just for nuts+bolts) in Bristol sold me 4bolts, washers and nuts for £2. Bargain!
It should be a metric fine thread... so on a M12 it should be a 1.5 thread pitch instead of the std that is 1.75
The new ones are all metric course actually. I'm guessing this makes no difference. I cut both captive bolts off from the top of the shock as both bolts sheared cos 'o the rust. ;-)
It’s part of the suspension and should be high tensile. I use grade 10.9. By the way, it’s part number N0101904. VWH has them. http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...-low-N0101904_act_shop.product_pID_184821.htm
5s are for holding stuff like the dashboard on. Min high tensile is 8.8 - I wouldn't go lower on suspension stuff...
The rear lower bolts are definitely M12 x 1.5 x 95 in grade 8.8. Mine are OG and the 8.8 is still just visible. The fine pitch will affect what is the correct torque setting.
Well I say 5 - they're actually 8.8. I (wrongly?) assumed this was equivilent to 5, and 10.8/12.8 was the same as 8.
Actually, I assume my bolts are OG because the shocks that came off are original Sachs with VW part number. It's possible the shocks and bolts were changed since new, but the shocks really look old enough to be OG.
Microbus, black damper covers. There's still oil in them and there's resistance to push and pull. But the bodies were extremely corroded and I preferred to swap them out while the bus is still off the road waiting for me to get it MOT-able... Bolts in fairly good nick and definitely 8.8
