looks good in the pictures. its a non-deluxe "berlin" but they've added what looks like a "smev" hob/sink. it'll have a cool box where the deluxe model would have had a proper fridge, although with a couple of iceblocks you'll be fine (a 36 yr old fridge is unlikely to work that great and will drain your battery..) @davidoft is a prefesional restorer who is very close (hayling island) so my recomendation would be to get him to go look at it with you.
my preference is a westy, but I have not done to much research on the types of westy, I am still well and truely a novice, as I have not seen any type of bus in the flesh yet, so I am very open minded to Devons etc.
It's official..... I am now the proud owner of a 1978 Westfalia Berlin. Picking it up on Thursday. Over the moon with the purchase. I will post pics and details when I pick it up.
Hey Phil, We have just purchased 'Borris' after hiring a Late Bay Devon last year. We took our time and saw lots of vans but in the end went for something really solid and with a peach of an engine. Interior needs a bit of TLC. Also had it checked over by a car restorer who has rebuilt these before. Bought it from a really lovely family who had every MOT for the last 20 years of their ownership and also the original service book (stamped) and masses of history. Didn't want one that had 'just' been resprayed as not sure what it was covering up. We found there are lots of boxes to tick as you look around and it may be difficult to tick every one however if you get out there and look at plenty then you will buy well. (Although i had to resist the temptation to buy the first one I saw!!!) Happy Looking and enjoy !! Ben
Excellent news... it did look very nice in the photos on ebay, glad to hear it was equally impressive in the flesh! Congratulations Hopefully I will be joining the 'proud owner' gang in the near future *crosses fingers*
Cheers everyone! Confirmed pickup on Thursday. Cannot wait to get behind the wheel especially with a bank holiday weekend coming up!
This is a very good idea. Never needed to use a breakdown service before, 3 times in 24 hours after picking up my van. So pleased I joined If you do need to join, have a look at doing it through quidco as I'll get back about half the cost of my cover. I'm sure your luck won't be as bad as mine though. Roll on Thursday.
Hiya, it's an Outwell Country Road. It came with the bus, it's big and has a bedroom compartment inside as well. It's a 2 person job to put up but adds loads more space. Congrats on your purchase, I look forward to some photos
