I did have this posted in the introduce yourself section but since the work has started I have moved it here. It took longer than I thought with work commitments and Xmas but workshop finally done and Cuthbert nice and dry.
First job I chose was to remove doors, engine lid, tail gate engine and gearbox, turned out to be all I had time for before going back off shore. It was relatively simple with the doors and lid coming off quickly, did have to drill out 3 bolts on drivers door due to rounded off Allen head bolts. The engine wasn't too bad either once I got the rear end high enough. All the bolts came out easily which was a nice surprise apart from one cv bolt which I ended up cutting the head off. Wish all cars where this easy to work on. It also gave me a chance to use my new tools and tool chest that Santa gave me.
I am at a similar stage but don't have the luxury of a garage - just waiting for the weather to improve. Good luck with everything!
Thank you, good luck with yours, I built my own workshop and it did set the restoration start day back by about 3 months but it was needed as where I live there is no protection from wind or rain.
Back from work last night so got some time to continue with the restoration. The rear end is pretty much done now with the wheels brakes suspension etc all removed. Can now see all the rust and poorly repaired patches on the rear chasssis legs.
Was meant to take the front beam of today but need to get a ball joint splitter as can't get them to part so decided to take petrol tank out and remove some electrics and other small pieces. Found some good original metal and petrol tank looks in great condition. Front section of roof also looks good.
Quite like the original green but not good with the reg plate RFC747M does anyone know if I can get an age related plate from dvla without having to get a personal plate.
Managed to get the front beam off today a few bashed knuckles to get the bolts out and one side had 3 bolts and one with the head missing. Looks in good condition though so happy enough just needs a clean and paint. Almost ready for the roll over jig
Found out today that I hate taking windows out!!! That's all I can do now until next month when I have funds for the jig then I can start on the chassis.
