Restless Legs Awareness Day aims to promote awareness of this medical condition or syndrome. It is held on the same day each year to coincide with the birth date of Professor Karl-Axel Ekborn (born 23rd September 1907, died 1977). This eminent Swedish neurologist first wrote and described the disease in 1945. Since then, a lot has been learned about its symptoms although (to date) there is no known primary cause. It may be associated with dopamine or blood iron levels. Characterised by urges to move the legs even when at rest, it can also sometimes occur in the arms. Secondary causes include some medication or other pre-disposing medical conditions. I used to have a few customers who suffered with this. Pretty miserable by all accounts.
Strange thing. I guess it isn’t funny to be a sufferer. I’ve always been accused of being restless, usually by people who are inert as a pastime!
Ms.T has accused me of having "Restless Body" syndrome. Reckons I continually wriggle and toss and turn all night ............ I say she's making it up as I always wake up in the same position I went to sleep in.
I suffer with restless legs there is also a Dr I think named Knyper who advocates a use of cold water to wade through pronounced Knyping or some thing similar any German members could help out with this. It does work
I too have been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome. Tis a bstard at times, but probably more so for the wife when I'm kicking her in my sleep!
Did you actually go and see a Dr and tell him you can’t stop moving your legs? Sorry, curiosity has got the better of me here!
No. I was referred to a sleep clinic for suspected sleep apnoea. They wire up all your limbs and head, and watch you sleep, (which isn't creepy at all .), which is when they also diagnosed the restless leg syndrome.
Just couldn't put up with playing football half the night and because I was kept awake at night and in my job it's essential to stay awake. It's like I tell my passengers I want to go like my dear old dad peaceful in his sleep. His passengers screamed a bit but he was peaceful
I get relaxed legs, is that the same? When your legs are all achey and you have to keep moving them or you can’t sleep? I’ve had this on and off even since my teens and it’s v annoying
