South African? Looks in pretty decent shape if it is, those guys tend to keep the van's running by any means.

  5. Well spotted, and yes you're absolutely right, so far I've discovered the steering wheel has at least six types of motion, left and right, up and down and around and around! When it arrived the engine was being held in with one bolt to the gearbox and nothing else.. oh, and the fuse box and wiring (the wires that haven't been cut that is) looks like a tin of spaghetti

  6. Thanks, I wanted something different to the wife's bay, I'm not allowed to get my spanners on that one

    Welcome!
My South African (the bay not my wife) was the same. Virtual every wire spliced and EVERYTHING mechanical was wrecked. Body was solid though, which is the good thing about them. Only the ones from around Durban are rotten apparently.

  18. Hi Baywindow 74

I have a SA van, just had the heater system installed , it blows out red sand. I like the number plates with elephants!

  19. Brought several in from SA about 20 years ago, mostly from Goateng Province with the GP plates on.
One split panel van apparently belonged to a bank and was used to deliver money to bank branches - I cannot imagine a more hazardous occupation than delivering bags of money around Jo'burg.

It had odd dings inside that, according to the seller, was from a bullet accidentally fired by one of the guards and ricocheted around a bit....
