After years of wanting a VW camper finally found the ideal one which hardly needs any work! Comes with no interior but actually has some metal in it. On it's way home photos. This looks to be the worst of the rot on the body and the bottom looks remarkably solid. Think it's been made lighter for racing? This feels like it may be a long journey. Get ready for hundreds of stupid questions as I prepare to restore this by myself with the help of two disinterested children and a very mocking wife! Cheers.
All I can say is good luck with that. It does look like scrap but I guess anything is achievable. What’s your location?
Welcome to the forum fella, thats one project you have taken on. We have a restoration section where there is a wealth of threads documenting some great builds, lots of useful information. Mech Tech for any mechanical issues. We also have Techenders twice a year, look out for that event where lots of us gather and either tinker with our buses, do very little other than have a laugh over a beer with no pressure other than an enjoyable weekend!
Cheers all, based near Leicester. I think it's all complete apart from an interior. 1600 engine, 2 gearboxes, one from a later 2l for better gear ratios? All doors are there, even came with two sliding doors! All glass, dash, etc. Just need to work out a plan, and a re-mortgage to fund it all
Thanks all. Plan is to start with the doors/openers as they are not so daunting (hopefully) and will at least give me some complete bits. Then I'm not sure. Probably the roof and work down.
Fair play .. that’s going to cost more to restore than it’s worth and 5+years if you don’t get divorced.. fair play
on a positive note, you have great access to the engine with those cut outs. .. not that you appear to have an engine but you know what i mean.
