Now Is the summer/autumn/winter of our discontent

  1. Hang on a minute. Weren’t you just defending barristers for going on strike when they are earning twice what your daughter is, yet your daughter I’m assuming is having to do a three year degree in nursing, probably works comparable hours to a barrister but literally has peoples life in her hands.

Am I the only one that sees how completely mental this forum is today. The Tory voter (me apparently) is saying pay nurses more. The Labour voters are saying good on the highly paid barristers for going on strike.

Has there been some sort of time slip in night and I wasn’t affected?

  2. They should learn to drive trains instead then.

Legal Aid, hmmm - don't get me started.

    Sham marriage anyone?

  3. i think the point Is that most average people would already say they are earning a decent return already and with the public funds so squeezed there’s plenty of other public sector workers paid far less than them who deserve a bigger slice of the pie before the wiggys.

I know you'll deny it but you have pre-conceived notions and if someone tickles them (like a news item) you suck it up and get all outraged instead of questioning it. No wonder you're a floating voter.

How you can link lawyers and bankers with train drivers is beyond me.

Their basic pay is not £70k, but us enhanced with overtime rates, allowances etc. All based on an expectation that they will work their rest days so the train operators don't have to employ the right number of drivers.

Think about their pay rates the next time you are on a train doing 100mph with many hundreds of people on board, with one driver taking full responsibility for everyone's safely.

  6. In a perfect world you wouldn’t allow floating voters would you? I think you said before in another thread that it’s no wonder the country is in such a mess when people “flip flop” like me. Perhaps it would be better if we all just voted the same way, like say North Korea.

  7. Doesn't surprise me.

I went round to @rustbucket 's house the other day. Posters of Nigel Farage all over the walls. He actually answered the door wearing a full SS uniform. Can you believe that?!

People who work are working class, people who don't are Tories, people who can't tell them apart and think the Tories are good for working people are mugs. Just my opinion. Other opinions are available.

  9. Looking inwardly at reforms? I think she means 'cracking down' in a Thatcherite way, obviously all for the benefit of the salivating blue rinse brigade.

We just need to be patient for a little while longer - Tory governments generally self-destruct through greed and self interest.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Truss will be nothing more than a caretaker, waiting to the turn the lights off.......

    Won't be long now.....

  10. I’ve never said they aren’t worth the money. The point i am making Is that if you look around at the rest of society and see that you are already doing considerably better than a lot of other public sector workers who have equally important jobs, but earn far less. Maybe that’s a time for a bit of humility and perhaps not to go on strike. Nurses and firemen and bin men I’m sure all do lots of overtime and work lots of days off, as I’m sure police officers do as well and don’t earn 70k a year from doing it.

There’s only a certain sized cake, I’m saying if you are already getting a decent slice of it, maybe let those that aren’t have a bit more eh? What’s the average wage of an MP? About 80k I think. Can you imagine the uproar on here if they went on strike for more money? You lot would explode with rage. But apparently it’s ok for barristers and train drivers who are earning similar amounts of public money to plead poverty and strike.

You lot are more Tory than the tories. Back the big earners.

  11. Yes you did, the second paragraph of your opening post.

  12. Rubbish.

  13. I think you need to go back and re read it. Where did I say that? I listed what they earn. I didn’t say they shouldn’t earn it. I did question the validity of strike action by them and I stand by that.

  14. Which bit?

  15. Ok try a bit further down as well:

"I’m gonna start asking people what they do and if it’s a lawyer or a banker or a train driver then I’m doubling my price. There’s only one word for these people and it’s Greedy, so maybe it time toplay them at their own game."

  16. Every contradictory word.

  17. As a heating engineer how much do you earn ... asking for a friend? They said they were only striking as they need a new boiler.

  18. £60 for a gas service
    £80 for an oil service
    £60 for landlords certificate
£10 discount for multiple bookings per customer
Day rate for boiler changes is £200 a day
£60 for a call out and the first hour for a breakdown. Additional hours after that generally £30 an hour but this reduces on long duration jobs.

    10% mark up on materials.

Cabbies should go on strike, since the introduction of sat navs it’s hard to go the long way round, because of uber driver who under cut us we have to work longer so therefore we can’t get on the golf until late afternoon, and we now have to go north of the river after 10 on a Saturday night,
I’m getting my oil drum out and a big banner, are you with me brothers
