If you have the relay and the wiring already there then it should be just plug n play. If not, then I'm not sure. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think you take an earth wire from one of the levers on the dash, one with have a contact near it's pivot point if you look from underneath. I think the live feed can be taken from anywhere that is only live whilst engine is running or maybe ignition on? I've probably just confused you more. Lol
You should have a relay stuck on the side of the snail fan.. J14 on a standard wiring diagram The yellow/black ones should be there and go round to the fan from J and B terminals on the relay.. the fan brown then needs any earth contact. The relay then has a fused red wire to terminal M this is a permanent live feed from the battery usually via the starter post that has the live feed to it but any live feed will do. The blue from terminal A connects to the blue out of the relay the alternator is connected to... the one that sends a wire to knock the dash generator light off... The brown and white one is a switched earth..as @oscar says usually via the lever for the heating or a switch to earth on the dash if it's broken.. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Oh.. and it's just screwed into the roof of the engine bay just right of centre if you want to use the official corrugated tubing or wherever you like if you cut your own..the right hand tube comes with slits in the side so they can call it oval to fit the riser from the exchanger but it's just the same as the rest of the round stuff Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Now some more advice please: What type / grade of wire should I be using for the fan installation What rating should the fuse have and where can i get a connector with cables to fit onto the relay on my newly acquired snail fan. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
^^could do with some more help here please. Wire grade / rating please? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
2.5mm2 I would say. Needs to handle up to 16 amps which is what the fuse is that runs it. 1.5mm2 may be enough. I'll check my wiring next time I get a chancd Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Hi , Will get some pics this week-ish or alternatively anyone is welcome to drop by the garage and have a look themselves. Mine apart from a new fuse holder is same as it left the factory .Location is Oxfordshire and Berkshire border RG9.
Bear in mind the factory wiring changed depending on the year. Pre ’76 the fan only ran with the engine running, ’76 on it ran with the ignition on. And if your bus was originally a 1600 it wont have the wiring at all.
Mine is a 1700 - so should (fingers crossed) have the wiring in place. The controls on the dashboard has a wire that should earth the relay on the snail fan and make it kick into life.
