You can turn it without a dizzy in it’s unlikely to damage it if you’re careful, that’s how you fit a dizzy by rotating the engine slightly for it to lock in.

One reason I blow up engines seemingly regularly is that I have driven my bus 96000 miles in the last 12 years..the first two of those engines were pretty junky (old VEGE, then I could have done better) to start with, the third was helped on its way by trusting it to a VW specialist.. Its reckoned a T1 in a bus lasts about 50k miles before needing help, while a T4 should be 100k to 200k ...

Maybe too cheap. If you dont want to possibly waste £750 , double it and go to a supplier who has a warranty.. You may be lucky, you may regret it.

I like the way that's phrased as if end float is a good thing making it "ideal for rebuild". Surely "no end float would make it more ideal.
It could be a toss up as to which is going to take the most work to bring up to spec.. a maybe good engine that leaked oil and siezed, or an unknown engine with endfloat as one of its good features. Unless the original engine leaked oil because it too had bad endfloat.
That is the plan!?! My engine has a bit that doesn't go round, this one does, so fingers crossed. Now debating upgrading my carb setup - had my bus booked in for a carb rebuild this week anyway, so while the engine is out I figure it's a good time for some upgrades. Big question - Single or twin carbs on a 1600???
I called five suppliers, the cheapest one in stock came out at £2700!! Others have a three-month wait list for 1600's, a couple had a 1776 on the shelf but they were loads of money
