Changing Bunks to Double (Pop Top)

  1. I have a Dormy 1971 with a side elevating pop top. Currently it has the two bunks usually found in Dormobile pop tops, but I’d like to create a double bed space. Partly as I feel it’s a bit easier to childproof for young children and also as I think it’ll be easier for future adult use too. Has anyone done this before? I’m wondering if putting a fold out platform over the bunks would be better, therefore technically keeping the bunks intact as another option and retaining a more original feature, or o if a imply replacing them with a pull out double bed similar to one you might find in a Westy would be better? Do you think the bunks even hold the weight of a platform plus person?

ps. Sorry if silly question, I’m new to all this.

(In light of retaining original feature, other parts of the interior may be replaced so useability rather than originality is our main preference.)
