Fire system in engine bay

  1. Can any tell me roughly how long it takes to fit a fire suppression system in the engine bay on my t2 please
    It’s a powder extinguisher

    Are you talking about a fire extinguisher type that has a carrier bolted to the wheel well /attached to the roof; or one of the tubular blaze cut type that coils around the roof of the engine bay?
    Either way, not long.
    (Although the JK fire fighter (same type as Blaze cut) one that I put in on the weekend was a pain in the arse because it kept springing back into a tight coil before I could pull the cable ties tight!!)
    How exact do you need your timings?!

    Took me about 10 minutes to do our Blazecut. It just cable tied into the perforated sound deadening boards. That included removing rear cushion, opening top engine bay lid and then putting it all back together.

    You just need to fix the bracket to the bus. About 5 minutes?

    I had one of those originally, but it wouldn’t fit back in when I had the twin carbs fitted, so I bought the blaze cut style one.
    The bracket was attached to the spare wheel well, literally just two holes with nuts and bolts holding the bracket.
    I guess if you use the spare wheel well actually for a spare wheel (I didn’t, as it is on the front), you could use bolts with a nice, smooth, domed head, so as not to press on the rubber?

    Braided stainless coated fuel lines, remote shutoff solenoid and a 1kg hand held powder extinguisher.

    At the least the fire extinguisher should have a pressure switch that de energises a remote shut off solenoid as fuel line breakage before the fuel pump can empty the tank.

    The in engine bay fire suppressors do not put out any burning fuel under the bus.
    They require the fire to get hot high up by which time you could have a burning puddle underneath..
    For that you still need a proper extinguisher and know how to use it..

    I had a fire, from a disconnected fuel line while test cranking , and it was limited by the shutoff solenoid and extinguished with a dry powder extinguisher in the engine bay and under the bus.
    Two day later after a lot of wire splicing, it was back on the road.
