I'm trying to find out what's supposed to be here. I think a degree of bodgery has been carried out though it'll be at least 20 years back. At the bottom is the jacking point and that seems to be OK. To the left hand side is a rust hole into the base of the B pillar. That area surrounded by 3 sides of a square has a piece of jagged rusty sheet metal which seems to cover the ends of the sills. There are two almost round holes behind it where I presume underseal is injected. The sills I think are OK. My inclination is to cut the metal off right across to the the inner side of the front arch and weld over the lot. Maybe leave holes with plugs for more undersealing. Any opinions? It's a 79 LHD, so has got double skin sills this side.
Yes the holes are for waxoyl stuff, one either side of the middle sill. Once I'd sorted what was behind that area I just made a small flat plate to go over it. I didn't redrill the waxoyl holes as I painted everything inside in Rustoleum while the outer sills were off and waxoyled from the other holes.
That's brilliant - many thanks. So that's this afternoon sorted. I think I'll also need to curl the metal around and do the crusty bit above the square. I'd love to get my underneath looking like that but with 40 years of underseal and waxoyl to scrape off I'm scared of what I might find.
You don’t see many like that it’s all original Lots have all that missing and patches of plates on and around it.
