002 is the type of gearbox, the case and design if you like.
CK, if that's what it is, is a box that was fitted originally to a 1700 type 4 engine.
    Is yours a type 4? I don't recall.
Put a picture of the code, not the casting number, up.
Look at the picture I sent you yesterday and orientate your camera to the flat area on the casting, near the front of the box, where the code is stamped.

  2. I'm thinking of getting a new clutch as you say. Not sure why its rusty - maybe it was like that when I inherited it? I can't honestly remember.

  3. Is this the fella? Now you mention it, I vaguely remember seeing T4 stamped somewhere..........Mine bus is a 1973 Bay

Yeah, what engine is it. Post a picture. It just helps establish if the bell housing is correct for the engine. The CK had a different bellhousing to the 1600 engine boxes

  5. Its a 1600 engine I believe.......

    Well there's a thing.
Best never to assume all is ok eh?
It might not be the end of the world. It could be that someone has already changed the bell housing and input shaft but to be honest that shaft really is horrible.
I've got an unknown CE code box as I said which is technically the correct one for a mid 70s type 1 bus engine.
But, before throwing more money at it you need to know exactly what you've got and what condition it's all in.
You're not a million miles away from me, so you're welcome to pop up and have a chat.
Throw the box in the boot as it'll be easier to understand what's going on.
As I said on the pm, give me a buzz during the week and I'll try and help as best I can.

Dont pile grease on your spigot shaft after cleaning it up , other wise you will end up flicking bits of grease on your friction plate ...then it's engine out again as it will slip . It only needs a light smear .

Yes, and made the clutch difficult/stiff to operate AND from the witness marks looks like the clutch wasn't quite centred which would also make it difficult to install then engine.
At a glance it looks like the right shaft/bell housing combo for a type-1 engine.
I've seen worse input shafts, I had one myself. :)

  9. Morning all........I'd like to report that 'Waldorf' as he's been named (primarily for his NYC numberplate and a famous hotel) is now moving under his own steam!
A big thanks needs to go to thebusmonkey for super guidance and a new gearbox. Hopefully I can progress with the next jobs and maybe, just maybe attend the next Techenders.
Thanks to everyone for their assistance!
    Cheers:cheers:

    Great news D.
Take it easy initially with that box as we don't know it's provenance ;).
It'll be great to see you at TE, even if it's just for a few hours. The little fella 'll love it :D
