High level brake lights

  1. After having two people not paying attention and nearly rear end the bus, I though I would fit a high level brake light. I prefer LED as they are long lasting, cheap and smaller in size than most bulb type. The other thing was that it had to stick to the back window.

This rules out most of what is on the market. So I bought one of these for around £8 on EBay.

On the bench it was obviously rubbish. The LED brightness was good, but the rest was really badly designed. It boasted that you could position the LED at any angle through 360deg but this was impossible without crushing or cutting off the power cable. The self adhesive pads started to come off the window within a few minutes and even with some modifications, it still was the wrong angle when viewed from the back.

About the same price but much better build. This was obviously made to stick to glass and it did that very well. It is a lot wider than I would like, but there is not much of a selection.

Here it is fitted. When I had the top box and headliner fitted, I had getting this in mind, so I already had power cables ready.

Here it is from the inside at the top of the rear screen.

Two downsides - one is that as it is quite large, you can see it in the rear view mirror, the second is that is not as bright as I would have liked. At night, it is fine, but during the day I think it would be glared out easily on sunny days.

£7.59 and free postage from Bulgaria. Still a decent bargain.

I will keep an eye out for any others.
