  4. If they replace the TV licence with a public levy you won't have a lot of choice. I fear that this is what will happen.

  5. Nice options….. not!

Depends. It still has far and away the best breadth of programming. It’s brought us world beating drama, comedy, factual programmes. It still has a large audience but that audience is getting older and the younger generation consume programmes totally differently. But even as a BBC fan, it can’t compete in its current form. It’s more diverse, more inclusive than it used to be. That’s a good thing. In that respect it’s not that much different from most broadcasters as far as I can see. Oh, but I forgot, they don’t play the National Anthem every day any more, so it’s obviously woke now isn’t it? It’s also so obvious that this has come out now to distract from the Tory party’s current difficulties.

The BBC seems to be biased against anyone you ask, it seems. Anti-tory, anti-labour, anti-lib dem - depending on who is expressing the opinion at the time

Hmmm, interesting, for such a woke, biased broadcaster, the BEEB had some of the most watched programmes of 2021. Go figure eh?

  9. I think the staggering waste of taxpayers money borders on criminal. They spend tens of millions of pounds awarding themselves huge pay rises and bonuses. When MPs were caught doing this sort of stuff, like duck houses, with public money they were quite rightly called out on it and some ended up in court.

Some of the figures the bbc have released themselves are eye watering.

I think if they weren’t just gifted all this money each year and had to actually get it through subscription service then they would be a lot more careful. They’ve all but given up on a lot of live sports coverage for a start.

  10. The whole system is arse about face. They force pensioners on fixed incomes to pay the £160 a year and then pay Gary Lineker a million quid a year to do a highlights show when they don’t even bid on the live games anymore. Same with F1. Same with cricket. Same with the grand National. Same with the charity shield. Same with the Masters at Augusta.

how’s that a value for money organisation? Whilst the managers award themselves 100% pay rises.

    it’s all wrong.

I shouldn’t worry about it. It’s days are numbered anyway, mad Nad says so.

  12. That was kind of the point of the post. I doubt it will happen and it’s probably just a way of deflecting from Borris antics but it got me thinking what would happen if any other publicly funded organisation behaved like this. Imagine your local council decided to up the council tax for pensioners then it turned out they’ll awarded all that extra money to themselves.

  13. You almost won me over there…. Then you mentioned golf!

Will need paying for either way , makes no odds , it’s coming out of folks pockets whether they want to or not , will just add or to something else

  15. I think it’s great value at £160 or whatever for the breadth of programming, quality of some of the series and journalism.

Amother diversionary tactic from the jibbering blancmange to buy time.

  16. What does left wing woke bias mean? Or what do you mean by it?

  17. I know but it’s interesting that the rank and file of the Tory movement (is that ironic?) are also diverting attention away from it here! Wow. Grass roots activism from the centre right….Impressed!

Do you think Gary lineker should work for free, or that the BBC should pay lees wages to avoid getting the best candidates and offer a lesser less competitive service than other channel’s , the argument that some folks don’t have money and consequently others shouldn’t either makes no sense

  19. Ok so left wing refers to the editorial slant that the channel has. Mainly it’s news and current affairs programs but also it’s comedy output. Including trying to destabilise the government by let’s say drumming up a fuel crisis that didn’t exist. Trying to scare people with stories about there’s going to be a turkey shortage at Christmas because of brexit etc etc.

Woke refers to the continuous virtue signalling. We must have whole departments (£260k a year for a three day week by the way) dedicated to making sure there’s enough people from ethnically diverse backgrounds on the screen so we can’t be accused of anything. What ever happened to giving a job to people cos they are actually good at it? My favourite two pundits on match of the day are Ian Wright and Micha Richards. They both happen to be black. But they’d still be my favourite presenters if they were green or pink or blue. Cos they are good at their jobs. We wouldn’t put up with this nonsense in any other walk of life. No ones ever said to me do you know any good black electricians? Can you recommend me a tiler as long as he’s gay. It’s just virtue signalling nonsense. How many of the top bbc managers or highest paying executives will be black or Asian or women. Not many I bet. They’ll keep the plum jobs for the boys.

  20. the bbc knows it dropped the ball on allowing “talent” wages to spiral and it was a PR disaster. That’s why they asked/forced so many to take pay cuts a couple of years back. Or very sneakily did what they did with Graham Norton. Moved his contract to BBC studios. Which is a separate company. That way they don’t have to publish his salary as he’s technically not employed by the BBC anymore. Or the same presenter might let’s say be employed by BBC when they are doing breakfast tv but by a separate company when they are doing say the one show. Same presenter. Same channel. Only one wage in the BBC accounts.

it’s 22,000 jobs for the boys on free money. Our money.
