Insurance Fiasco !

  1. Agreed, but some insurer responsibility for what is clearly an honest mistake isn't an unreasonable expectation either.

  2. They will have asked the question "are these details correct?" at some point...

Ah, I yearn for the good old days when you'd have popped into the insurance office, the girl would have corrected the honest mistake so you could claim and on the way home nip into the bank, have a chat with Charles the manager, organise a £10k overdraft with immediate effect "sign the paperwork next time you're passing" and get all your bank charges reimbursed.

    You are so very wrong.
Let me ask the question……” Why is Oz asking for the policy to be cancelled ?”
Honest answer ….” So he doesn’t have to disclose on a future proposal that his Insurers have terminated the policy”
Do you think Oz’s actions are actions which would be of interest to a new insurer? I do.
As I have tried to stress in earlier posts it is foolhardy to mislead, misinform or not be open on insurance contracts. You may think you have a policy of insurance but it may well be voidable……what’s the point ?

I should imagine that is exactly what has happened by email or whatever, and I’m sure someone will have hurriedly swiped it off the screen moaning about how they keep on to you.:D

  6. Yes, of course they will have asked that, but surely a two letter reversed mix up on a registration number and the fact that Ozzie does own the Zaffira that does have the registration that was intended to be insured, should not be unreasonably rejected and there will be records of previous insurance cover of the Zaffira in Ozzies name on the Insurance Database - that's what it is for !

It's one of the reasons I'm selling my van, I had to lekll
You better check your van insurance - if it's classic it's a second policy and reliant on you having another car properly insured. oops. :)
Unless like me you talked the underwriter out of that bit and you/they have it on record.

You really have no choice Oz, at least you are currently insured but not pre- incident. Let’s see how it pans out, you are in their hands, play ball.
Think yourself fortunate that the car park incident happened and the copper alerted you to the insurance problem otherwise you would be blissfully unaware of the situation:):)

From what I've read they haven't terminated the policy they have amended it with the correct details,

So no claim , Ask the question

  10. I'd be more worried about the "dangling moisture catchers" (which is a great name for a band, BTW )

Not responsibility as such but perhaps a bit of reasonableness. Hopefully the request for more info from Oz may be a positive sign, but don’t bank on it.

It would seem they hold all the good cards, and the onus is always on the punter (me) to check all the details. There’s maybe a few ways this could have been averted by the insurers but it actually works in their favour not to use them as they’ve insured a car that I can’t possibly claim on so their risk is zero. They’re probably down Boris’s now having a glass or two at a knees up telling all and sundry about the plonker insuring someone else’s car for nearly two years. Bet it’s going down a storm :D

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, can’t beat this one, no matter how hard I wrack my brain box.:theforce:

I just think this is all about ass covering exercise hence the dotting the I s and crossing the Ts and making me think I got off lightly.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,as in still have insurance :)

I can't see they've gained anything if they have to give you the money back. What's the betting that if you'd noticed, but didn't have a claim situation they'd have amended the details and kept all the money.
    Did you miss post #67?

Not how it works I’m afraid. If the only confirmation they required was relating to the reg no then perhaps but it was far more detailed than that.

  16. I'm not disputing that's not how it works. Kind of explains why uninsured vehicles are everywhere though.......buy a car, never get the V5 in your name and dump it if you have a bump.

Obviously this is a situation that is in flux. It seems that they have said that Oz not insured pre incident but is insured post incident pending their investigation. I have made my views on openness quite clear. You seem to be of the opinion that there are ways around it , we disagree.

Ok for a start I'm not trying get around any thing, it's not my policy and apart from giving advise , I don't really care(no offence Ozzie), we seem hell bent on blaming Ozzie, the insuramce company,

What will it cost to ASK THE QUESTION

What's the worst they can say

I think it's irrelevant now anyway

Don't always think company's are always out to shaft people, I know the insurers don't want to pay out and will try to find a way out of doing so (only if there is a valid suspicion)

My last post on the matter as the funny names thread is more entertaining

Not sure about this post 67,but I’ve only just spotted they are numbered taaaa daaah. My brains are mush at the moment. I am actually insured right now and since I did that details change thingy a couple of days ago . I’m not insured previously to that and I’m not getting any money back and the guy sounded rather ominous and ready to send the peelers around to sort me out or so it sounded. I said to the Mrs, “blocks to this load of malarkey “ after I’d given them my inside leg measurements etc etc with regards to my license, but I think I’ll reconsider and maybe fire up an email with my log book details on and just close the door gently behind me.
As said above, this is a fairly minor incident at hand and not on a public highway and I’m not in the stocks (yet) This could have been a lot more serious to all involved but we’ve got away with a crushed bumper and a large scratch on my door, luckily no peeps were hurt or involved in any way. Apart from Kingswoods answer to the bomb squad regarding my moisture gadgets. We may never know if someone was trying to doing an unmentionable to my car or possibly the handbrake failed by itself, but it’s done now. So I may not be retiring anytime soon, supposed to be April, just had the letter from the MAN about getting me ready to spend all this money the government is about to foist upon me, might even get myself a nice fresh cream chocolate eclair to go with my lunch that day :)

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,roll on summer :)

It’s sounding crap but at least you didn’t have an accident driving or it had injured anyone.

that would have made a bad situation much much worse. At least you know it was an honest (expensive) mistake.

I wouldn’t cancel your policy now they have amended details, the companies all talk anyway.
