Been asked to have a look at this. Will it not give me a picture because the ariel is too old for today's signals?
Analogue isn't an option any more I'm afraid, you MIGHT get a result putting the ariel through a digital box as most folk did 'back in the day'.... Well the 90s anyhoo. I seem to remember most DVD players could create the witchcraft enabling an analogue tv to view a digital station ?? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
As above, if it's an 'analogue only' TV receiver, there's only digital signal options now - so it's redundant apart from being a monitor for a digital box or DVD / Blu-Ray player, and only then if it's got the relevant inputs on its rear. Whereas years ago, a VHS video recorder would have a TV signal receiver built into it (so you could record Blankety Blank and Neighbours), DVD and Blu-Ray tend to be 'play-back only' so there's not even a TV signal receiver built into them anymore.
You could probably find a digital set top box to connect to it, then it would work. I've freecycled a few in the past.
A Good firm hard slap hard on the top might work that’s what the old man did nipper failing that call out the DER man
Somewhere coming into your house is a big fat bundle of Rediffusion wires. There will be the Light Programme, Home, maybe Luxembourg, and BBC TV will be on a pair of these wires. (Your TV wouldnt work for that you need a digital set top box with a UHF modulator)
Cheers for the replies. A family friend (she's pretty much family) dug the TV out wanting to use it, but I'm going to say it's not worth the hassle. The screen is smaller than her tablet and I don't think she will want to faff about with extra gubbins. I'll see if she can get something for it on eBay.
Package it with a ZX81 for retro computer nerds.. Or any 1980s home computer will have a UHF Channel 36 modulator output that will drive it...
