1. Investigate why one of the 240V plugs doesn't work sorted (a wire wasnt stripped back nor connected). 2. Put a little inline toggle switch on the rear USB charging points so the lamp isn't illuminated constantly (sorted and working how I want it) 3. Replace perished screen washer hose and pop in a small non return valve 4. Find water leak on the windscreen seal and seal up with windscreen flexi sealant 5. Replace front brake backplates 6. Replace left hand front wheel bearings for the MOT in January 7. Sort out right hand rear star adjuster housing (possibly replace backplates). Four backplates changed 8. Renew rubber brake hoses 9. Brake Fluid change 10. oil and filter change 11. Replace screenwasher pump 12. Replace left hand rear brake cylinder
For my notes and hopefully helping others.. I have the Just Kampers Electronic Screen Washer kit fitted to Major & the washer pump seized up. Topran do one almost identical to the washer pump JK use and its only £6.99 (the water outlet is in a different position & the spade connector plug didnt click into place like the JK one does. I fitted the JK one too. To be honest I haven't even used it. It's the one using a stock looking washer bottle with a motor in the right hand end. The worst bit was the pump is fitted at the half full level with no pick up pipe, so when you get down to halfway you get no water! Yes I made one but you shouldn't have to. They do sell a lot of junk. So I suppose I'm not surprised the pump is crap. Thank you for the link to a better one.
This motor still sits half level to be fair, it’s not ideal but it’ll do and at £7 it’s not a big money looser!
To maintain the records of what work has taken place, here is the front brake backplate swap along with the renewal of the left hand front wheel bearing. Right hand front: backplate replaced. brake disc edges descaled and cleaned up, wear lip removed and the brake pads re-chamfered and the squeal shims copper greased. wheel bearings re-greased and play checked. Left hand front: backplate replaced. wheel bearings packed with fresh grease, dust seal replaced re-greased and play checked. brake disc edges descaled and cleaned up, wear lip removed and the brake pads re-chamfered and the squeal shims copper greased. Next up is to replace the rear backplates and change the brake hoses all round and replace the brake fluid.
More brake work carried out. New right hand rear backplate fitted, new hose, grommets and spring clips too. The old backplate was bent along its outer edge and the spring clip which holds the star adjusters in place had broke New backplate fitted and new brake hose clipped in place & tightened up Built back up, wheel bearing play checked and set (for now, will recheck after a few hundred miles). Got to check the drum as its catching somewhere.

Left hand rear backplate and brake hose swapped, new hub seal fitted as the old one was damaged and letting grease past. New backplate and Hub seal swapped & seated home. New clips for the hoses too, on both sides plus the rubber bung that surrounds the brake line as it passes through the axle housing. Hub nut torqued up to 253 Ft Lbs (for my note, Bentley) with a very slight amount of play & as with the right hand side I'll check again all round after a couple of hundred miles. New cotter pin in the castle nut too.
The long bit on the bottom spring is apparently supposed to stop the handbrake cable falling off the lever ... if you fit it the right way round. Mind you, the cable would have to be ruddy loose for that to happen IME. Maybe it's in case the cable snaps and prevents stuff fouling the rear brakes in that freak situation.
looking back, those springs have been wrong way round for many a while and trying to get the handbrake cable off is a task in itself, for now I'll leave as is but I have to adjust the brake when Ive bled the system so I'll swap the orientation same time!
Front brake hoses and brake pipes & clips are now swapped for new so the little backplate replacement project is complete except for bleeding and adjusting the rears. Next job is to pop some sealant around the windscreen aperture as its letting water in somewhere. Last april it had a new screen seal but no sealant which will hopefully do the trick! It'll have a service too before next years adventures!
Mileage covered: 2,076 (22259 - 20183). Nights away: 32. Techenders Scotland Cotswolds Bagfest Nah Then Festival Keiths Fuel consumption: ~ 34 mpg which seems consistent with 2021. Oil consumption: none which I have noticed. Jobs for winter: new brake backplates front & rear. new brake hoses front and rear. fit slightly thicker foam in the rear seat base / back. Sleep time for Major and a list of jobs to do is building up: 1. Chase water leak on front end, seal windscreen, fit new indicator seals and new wiper spindle seals (again). 2. Change breather hoses. 3. Replace old battery clamps with new modern ones, clean all earths and replace the battery. 4. Fit new sliding door seal a some numpty put the current one on upside down. 5. Check all fuel hoses. 6. Fridge plug has a wiring connection issue. 7. Right hand rear wheel arch needs stone chip checking, some of it has got cracks. 8. Change gearbox oil. 9. Check handbrake adjustment I'm sure other jobs will surface as I go over him.
Majors Winter refresh, at last! Got the windscreen sealed with the non setting sealant, which was a messy job and the indicators should be water tight as they have been resealed. New wiper spindle seals fitted (again) and hopefully sealing (again)...who knows The sealant was quite messy and ended up everywhere, down my fingernails, all over my hoodie, luckily it cleaned up fine with white spirit and T cut!
