Need a “competent person” for a report on work completed

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Bohobus, Nov 25, 2022.

  1. Hey,

So to cut a long story short, we paid a guy (who specialises in campervan conversions) to restore the interior of our 1978 bay. We pulled the van out after 3 months when we had concerns regarding his workmanship (see pics). We also have more photos/videos of the van that are a bit more comprehensive. We are in the process of trying to recoup some of the money we spent but we would ideally need a report from a “competent person” to give us their thoughts on the quality of work carried out. Can anyone suggest someone who would be willing to do this for us?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated ✌

  2. Where are you?

  3. In Stirling, we have taken a full video tour of the van/ work completed, is this something you would be able to help with?

  4. not me personally but your location gives the forum something to work with .... best of luck!

  6. we see some results - but what was the assignment? Was it recorded in writing?
A lot of people discussing only things like the price (in most cases much too low*) -
but nothing about quality or time of such a project - or approval of release steps...
All this is related - if you don't clarify it then it looks like in these photos - even if you had another dream.
You are not the first one...

*I have done a lot myself like many others -
a price tag will be the horror for others who commission everything... ;)

    good luck

  7. The assignment was a “full interior restoration” it wasnt put in writing (hind sight is a great thing) but we do have a video he posted on receipt of the van stating it was a full restoration. We paid £5000 to get it to this stage over 3 months and we were billed an additional £350 for a full days labour to load 5 boxes of parts into the van when we were removing it from his premises.
We were invoiced for jobs such as “completion of pop top” and we were also charged for the time taken to rectify the door cards that he had incorrectly fitted.
The money isn’t our biggest issue, we are more interested in a professional looking at the work carried out and stating whether it was completed to an acceptable standard.

Again, any help would be much appreciated. EDDA6DE9-AE79-49D5-9BE5-F5D1B13D43CB.jpeg 07E878E8-5163-4730-9C3B-A35F46BB4FC8.jpeg

  8. I don’t think you need an expert to know that £350 smackers to load up a few boxes is taking the pee.

Jesus. Looks like he needs to go on an upholstery course.
    What insulation is that?

If you are prepared to take this all the way to a Court of Law, I would recommend that you find someone whom a Court would regard as a Expert Witness sooner rather than later. That's not straightforward in itself as there are plenty of people with impressive qualifications who offer their services but are not sufficiently experienced in your particular problem to be useful. From experience, I would avoid anyone who doesn't want to see your bus for themselves. Good luck.

  15. That is so bad it is untrue. The canvas white strip should be put on with the roof off for a start so when its put back on the strip is covered up. Just pointed that out in case you didn't know. You know the rest is crap.

  16. Whar roof came with it ?

  17. How hard is a roof canvas? That's atrocious. We, as in the TLB massive, did a full roof canvas replacement, in a field, with hand tools, all done in one single day???

I’m no expert, but that looks pretty shocking for someone who (I assume) is running this as a business. He is a registered business, presumably? Not just an 8 year old being supervised with the scissors and power tools by a blind great grandparent?
