Mike isn't time you got off your Brexit horse. I read somewhere it was just down to volume of freight and covid paperwork, it was in the guardian today. Anyway the European nations seem to have an eye on their own interests like the Germans blocking support of arms to Ukraine.
Have you watched The Death of Stalin? You'd think it would be weird, a comedy about Stain, Beria and chums, but it's extremely funny. The USSR in the fifties was such an utter shambles, you might as well make a comedy out of it. Recommended. Warning: contains rude words and rudeness...
Cheers Rich, it is on my “To watch” list, so I’d better get round to it. It’s Armando Ianucci so gotta be pretty good
Bizarre subject, but really well done. Full of one-liners, and the English and American accents just make it funnier. Star of the show is def Jason Isaacs as Marshall Zhukov...with a Yorkshire accent . Minister: "Comrade!" Zhukov: "Fook off!" Warning: very funny, but very rude words...
I checked further .. fact this queue was mostly down to a lack of one DFDS ship out for service. However having worked for European companies on European projects, Brexit and the carte blanche it provides for continued xenophobia and worse depresses me.
In fairness, there’s a lot of anti EU sentiment in many EU countries. I don’t think you can necessarily blame it all on xenophobia.
Watched it earlier today. Great stuff . As you say, Jason Isaacs steals every scene he’s in, but a great ensemble piece, Buscemi superb as usual, and Russel-Beale suitably psychopathic as Beria
After watching it, I'll always imagine Khrushchev having an American accent (and Zhukov coming from Yorkshire). If you can find the scene where Stalin's son is trying to wrestle a pistol from one of the guards (for a full ridiculous 30 seconds), the actress playing his daughter can't keep a straight face. She actually laughs and looks at the camera - Iannucci obviously waves at her to keep going, as the whole scene's so magnificently daft
