Looked at the video - that about 2000 rpm is actually in-range for a fast idle caused by the choke mechanism not releasing the throttle off the stepped cam round the back of the carb. It could be as silly as no DC power getting to the choke heater which is round the back of the carburettor - on my progressive this tag is basically resting on the fan housing and the vibration can knock the wire off - its really horrible as it can also short out and do nasties to the wiring or cause misfires on engine braking .. I ended up making some "adjustments" to the fan housing with a hammer, and beefing up the insulation over the tag.
When something goes wrong after you've been working on it, it makes sense to look for problem in the area you were working. If not the exact thing you were working on, what you might have disturbed. Common sense? If you'd said you just fiddled with the fuel pipe, I bet Mike (as he has muchos experience of that carb on that engine) would have made that suggestion on the first page.
From 1st page The only thing I've done is a new fuel pipe from pump, underneath to carb. I haven't ever messed with carb screws.
After fiddling with the choke wire, today the bus ran fine, ticked over normally. The wire is in bad condition with electric tape around a join. I should make good that wire.
Apologies, so you did! I missed that but it wouldn't have alerted me as I didn't even know what carb(s) you had and to be picky, nor did anyone else from just this thread. Sorted!
I'm still learning not only about the vw bus but also how to ask for advice. Next time I'll try to include relevant info. Thanks.
