Project Myrtle: Jim’s Baja Bug Build

Ah perfect, that's reassuring.

 

Lost a post or two I think, so re-posting.

Out for the first test drive in the baja today! A few further bits to sort before I take it on the road.

The gear shifter needs some further adjustment as 2nd 4th and reverse are a bit tricky. I think this is due to the bus gearbox sitting slightly further into the car so I’ll need to open up the holes in the base plates to give me a bit more adjustment room.

And the brakes are a bit soft so need a bit more tinkering.

Thanks mate. I'm chuffed with the look. I've still got some bits to build for it (roof rack and side bars) but for now the priority is getting it on the road.

Thanks Para, not bad for a bug I paid £650 for (let's just ignore the small figure spent restoring it!).

 

Having met Myrtle (and James) in the flesh today, I can safely say she's even more beautiful than in the pictures!

An absolutely brilliant first weekend with the baja bug. Figuring there’s no better way to find all the gremlins than taking it for a good drive we went over to the Great Dorset Steam Fair on the Sunday. We’ve never been before but will be definitely going again, I might even try and get the bug in one of the displays.








Followed by an aircooled meet down at Rivo’s Hub.

I didn’t get round to taking any pictures of the Baja’s interior when I finished putting it in a few weeks back so here it is in all its glory.

A bit of a wash for the baja to get the dirt and salt off her. I’m still super happy that I went with the bold interior for this as it makes me smile every time I drive it.

 

Looks awesome! Probably look even better once you polish it

That's the finish straight out of the gun. I've waxed the paint, but mopping a baja feels like a waste of time!

 

Having just seen it in real life after picking up my seats, I can say it looks fabulous!

 

Saw the bug earlier today at Poole's Classic Cars On The Quay. Looked very nice and in some interesting company.

 

Ah thanks mate. There was a nice variety of stuff on display this morning and good to see so many people out and about.
