  3. Also been trying to get a compression test done,
My battery isn’t great so it’s proving hard to get a decent reading

Last attempt was getting around 100psi on all cylinders with it struggling to turn over with the tester in the port
Have a new battery to test with now so fingers crossed

  4. As per keeping my promise to my good lady, I have been inside decorating for the last few weeks and a few more to come,

So Uggy has been left unattended and little did I know, he made a new friend in the form of this little 74 1300 bug

Probably not the most sensible thing to do, but here we are

And a previous purchase the day earlier has pretty much decided in its destiny

  5. Nice future project.

I love the KN Gemini alloys on it. I spent years looking for a set then got given some EMPI 8 spoke replicas so am running them instead. Still one of my favourite looking wheels.
They used to be sold by Cartune in the 70's. £49 for a set of 5.

  7. I love little snippets into the past like this

I haven’t had chance to get a good look at the bug yet.
Thanks for the info on the wheels

I think you need those wheels. They’ll be too small on a Baja bug. ;);)

  11. It’s been a while again, but here we go
We are well on the way to becoming fully baja’d
He’s running, driving, insured and taxed and my first ever drive of an air cooled Vw

just going through some pre mot checks and test runs round the block before I take it for a test

I’ve done a top end rebuild on the engine (full of sand)
Replaced both heater channels and various repairs to the body and floor pans
    Cut the rear off
Dealt with many many electrical issues
    New brakes all round
    New exhaust
Different wheels (half way there on that)
    New washer bottle system
    Home made ignition barrel
    New swing axel boots
    The list is long

Still not pretty, but that will come in time and I’m now in the “Rolling Resto” club with “Fuggy the Buggy”

Uggy is still lurking in the background, I’ll get back on him soon

Loads more pics on Instagram @project_uggy if you are interested

Been following you closely on Instagram. Looks ace. Can we have a special “late bay forum baja club”?

  16. The beetle has been on the road for over a year now, slowly working through the issues that arrise
It’s now a 1600 and can just about pull the big wheels up to and a bit beyond 70
    [IMG]

I have put some time into uggy too.
    Mainly bodywork and paint
And a little garden camping trip
    [IMG]

Tidied up the engine bay and got the type 4 back in there, has cruddy points which has now been addressed, starts and runs very well but will need a proper tune at some point

Weeks and weeks of body work(I’m not good at it)

  17. Here is pretty much we’re I am now,
I’m happy with the front, the side has bloomed (badly) and needs to be redone

The to do list is still huge,
Still need to get a windscreen and pretty much everything for both front doors (seals rubbers and scrapers)

The bumpers are in a poor state and require patching together

The front hinges roof needs a lot of work as the gel coat has failed, but at least it’s starting to look like something now

A lot has happened since I last read the thread, the beetle/buggy looks awesome & a bundle of fun. Keep at it!!

  19. thanks, the beetle is a fun little car. Just makes me smile every time I take it out

I have put some effort into the bus this summer, I’m 9 years into the resto now and I would like to use it before the kids get too old
