Tried dismantling, but no go on the "intelligent" option

 

Never use ingenuity when brute force and ignorance will suffice

A lovely January day for a circular walk around Foxton to one of my favourite local(ish, about 12 miles away) pubs at the foot of the famous lock staircase (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxton_Locks).

Looking back over Foxton village...


Still trying to find out what used to be at the site of these earthworks, the sheep are not far off lambing now. Photographed From Gallow Field Road - which may be a clue?...


Our destination, not the posh touristy Foxton Locks Inn but the 'spit n sawdust', 'boaty' Bridge 61 on the far bank...


Mission accomplished ...


The view back down from half way up, 5 locks below us and 5 above. Not much traffic today...


Top of the Victorian 'Inclined Plane' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxton_Inclined_Plane) which was hoped would significantly increase capacity over the 10 lock staircase but only remained in service for 10 years...


Final look across the canal basin before the towpath walk along the Market Haborough arm back into Foxton village...

 

Been on holiday down near Yarcombe this week and we have had glorious weather.
