    It had to be an early iron structure as it is very economical with the metalwork and so would be contemporary with the Tay Bridge which I do know a bit about as it features in my lectures on things that fell over. The horizontal lattice work looks like an afterthought.

    As above but my initial thought was Sandsend viaduct on the same line just outside Whitby, the concrete footings are still in place on the beach ...
