Mine smells of petrol once i've filled it up - maybe i fill it up to much and it overflows the internal tank.
I've just removed my petrol tank & look what I found:- These aare the pipes on top of the tank, very cracked & very perished & couldn't get to the bin quick enough. This one is very very dodgy, it ripped as soon as I pulled it. Its probably 30 years old & is the original. Its tucked up above the leisure battery nearside. Up in the vent, easy to get to but hard to see. My advice is to change all these ASAP.
read this , checked mine , found dude who recently done some work for me has metal piped most of the fuel line(s) inc. thru bulkhead to engine bay , not secured,so lovely vibration against hole edge !! will prioritise this job , like tomorrow !!
Thank you Joker, found this thread very informative and thorough have now addressed all of the above, cheers.
Glad in away this thread is still going , I did check the entire brake pipe system(that I paid dude to fit) and yes ,not a grommet in sight ,anywhere , so...now fitted ....what is it that wise (now dead)wise bus sage(john muir) said ? was it " do your own work , cos no one loves your bus as much as u do "<he got something right then (imo)
The breather pipes above the straps, is there much of a gap between the 2 pipes? mine seem to be rock solid
Ive built two kit cars from scratch, you definitely dont need to be paying that sort of money, as long as the hose is suitable for petrol , correct diameter, a single piece and doesn't rub on anything it will be fine. Available from most good automotive shops in a variety of shapes and sizes.
My bus stinks of fuel. It always has. Various things have been changed to try and fix it, but it's even worse now. It runs a Scooby 2.5 quad cam. First, all the fuel filler neck was changed, as it seemed to always be worse when pushing the bus round left hand bends. Pushed hard and you could see fuel leaking down the offside wheel arch onto the exhaust. It wasn't poring, just a slow drip, drip, drip. But nothing's ever leaked into the engine bay. After all the neck pipes were changed things got a little better for a while. But the smell / the fume's have come back worse than ever. But there's no leak anywhere. All I can think of is that the tank might have a small split in it somewhere, perhaps in the roof of the tank. Will investigate it further over the next 2-weeks. But if anyone's got any other ideas, it'd be great to hear.
What changes do they make to the tank when they fit the scooby engine? I'd have thought if it was split they'd have noticed when they were working in your engine bay.
i'd imagine they need to fit a return pipe to the tank with it being fuel injected? certainly the original f.i busses have a return so that's my thought, as for the leaking in Baydreams van it can't be that difficult to sort if all the hoses are renewed and tight then the tank must be holed - but you'd think fellowes would have noticed if they changed the fuel lines?
Its almost certainly the fuel filler neck pipe. On the later late bay you have a rubber hose fitted to the tank, then a metal pipe, into the rubber at the top of the filler neck. Did they only replace the top end of the filler neck...? If so maybe it all just needs clamping up a bit tighter
i agree, but people like og - in this case i would rather fit a suitable and safe replacement than be paying £47 upwards for something that you cant see that probably costs pence to make.
Is there a pipe connected to the tank itself which can't be replaced and would require a new tank? I have been told that a pipe on my tank has had a bodge job repair to the pipe. it is fixed to the tank so will require a new tank? Does this sound right?
