How many breathers are there to replace?

 

Did my fuel hoses today. Got an eyefull of petrol. Put fuel pump on backwards stopped abot 100yds down road outside a pub with lots of people in the garden took abot 5 mins to get going again. The 2 year old R7 that was on there was starting to go a bit at the ends. The tank spigot had no fitting just push fit and there was one jubilee clip on another which is not good. Much happier now its done

 

Fuel lines done by my local vw specialist the other day. From tank to engine bay didn't look too bad. Leaking glass fuel filter replced with plastic one. Breather pipe behind spare wheel was knackered, specialist replaced it with 1/4 pipe, rather than 7/32 which he told me was correct. I think he couldn't squeeze the 7/32 or 5.6mm pipe on!

 

Appreciate this is an old thread but thought I'd keep it together, I've been considering doing my fuel and breather pipes however having a 72/73 I don't have the rubber neck only 55mm hose attaching it to the tank. Looking at the drawing in this post the pipe I have would appear longer than the referenced. I was considering this and just getting a length of 50 cm. anyone used or recommend it.

For the breathers just use leftover fuel line from when you replaced those.

Just saw this and thought of Bill as the engine is out, will be investigating weds PM and probably buying bits soon.
I presume DOKA ones are different (and therefore more expensive!).

I bought a length 1.5m from volksbits the other week along with the pipe clips not jubilee remember.I've since bought some extra r9 5.6mm from eBay which is pretty much exact and quick delivery. You will find the breather pipes are slightly bigger than fuel lines. Put your breather pipe cuts in boiling water first they go on a lot easier.

Again search fuel line clips on eBay think they are size 11 off the top of my head and only a couple if quid delivered for a pack of 10.yes use 5.6mm all round,you will only need to do hot water trick on the breather pipes.one word of warning my inlet pipe connector on my carb was too big for the 5.6mm had to get the next size up 7.6mm and an 8mm to 6mm reducer as I wasn't confident enough to strip down carb and replace the banjo fitting
