Swapped nearside rear brake drum and shoes. Looks like the rather worn OG drum diameter was far enough adrift compared with the newer shoes in there before , they were not making very good contact. The drum had done about 100k miles, the shoes much newer.

About 60% of the leading shoe and about 40% of the trailing shoe were worn. I will check when they were changed.

I will do the other one tomorrow, but it took about an hour to do one side, and I am not in a hurry as the gearbox only arrived at Bears today.

Swapped the offside rear brake drum and shoes - on that one the outer lip of the drum has rusted through and turned into layers of rust and partly broken off : which was the comment from Kev at SGS Aircooled after the MOT -he noticed it despite the MOT not mentioning it. So that's it for about 130000 miles and 48 years. Definitely worn too.

At least the JK brake drums are made in Italy, the German ones from Heritage were out of stock and the Brazilian ones were the most expensive.

Some more rust to pick at and wire brush treat and paint under there. And then to re-site the shutoff solenoid and fuel filter onto something a bit more permanent - after all the cable ties have worked for years but they seem so tatty.

When I bought my bus 11 years ago I replaced the rear brake drums because when you buy a new bus with too much money you go to JK and because you can buy something you do...

Then I managed to warp the replacements, so I put the very original ones back on because they were still round.

And since buying my bus I have driven about 90000 miles in it , so lots of stuff is being knackered because its well used and 11 years older.
