Put the coolbox interior back under the Devon sink - its very tatty - I will have to replace it with some more normal cupboard in the near future. (its interior is a vacuum moulded piece of thin plastic and its so old its cracking like crazy - i fixed the worst damage with epoxy resin glue and fibreglass tape.).
    Still waiting for gearbox...

    Took her for a MoT.
Passed, but at first glance, certificate looked quite scary.
Few things to investigate over winter.[IMG]

Annoyingly I replaced the seals on the steering box just under 2 years ago and it's the top one that's leaking... will have another go, this time using quality seals...or just wait till the box is empty.

  6. That's odd. Suck a bit of oil out of it ;)

The other stuff is a chore, but do-able if you keep your head down.

Only thing I can't find information on is rear bearing adjustment....seems its new bearings time .... or am I missing something.?

  8. There's no adjustment on the rears. They're just one roller and one ball race. I'd ignore that bit ;). Fronts are a chore, but do-able. Biggest hassle is undoing the caliper bolts if they've been on a while, and drifting out the outer bearing races. But...keep your head down.

It’s also worth remembering that unlike modern stuff the rears do need a bit of play so they may be ok.

The guy I go to has old VW's and he used to be a one man band .... now he has electric courtesy cars out front and has aimed his market as an independent VW garage dealing with predominately new VAG vehicles .... on of his mechanics did it, who probably has little or no experience of our vehicles. So in that respect I'm not concerned.

There is more play in T2 bay window busses on the rear than most other vehicles ....some mechanics recognise this and some don't .
If it doesn't seem that bad when you check it yourself ...give it a 20 mile run then re check . Then next year give it a good run prior to the MOT .

This. I replaced one for an MOT and he said it was no better. He didn't ask me to replace any more after that. They are quite loose cold.

Gradually getting grumpier is true, no objections here. It's an age thing. :)

... and if I objected, Pete would replace it with something worse!

It's good to accept the aging process...I've got quite a few "Grumpy Old Man " tat ... it's mildly amusing... a friend the same age, really goes off on one if "getting older" is mentioned... but that's life.

Being old is probably hard to take if you have some regrets, but I have so many it's pointless dwelling on them and I feel free at last so really - what's to complain about?
Time - money - health? Pick one.

Slippery slope that Mr Calf, secreting just in case spares!
That's how you end up with every available odd shaped cavity and receptacle stuffed with stuff ranging from spare dash bulbs, through wheels bearings and cv joints to snow chains and voltage regulators haha.
Now where did I put that spare clutch cable clevis pin...
