I’ve had success on smaller stuff using a left handed drill bit (yes they are real).
I learned a long time ago that the normal extractors give you a whole world of pain as they snap.

  2. Last few days I thought I would have a go with putting on the front bumper and steps - a lot of work to still do but looks good:

Just need to get the gear changes to work and went to take it for a spin in the sun and could not get it into gear (1st to 4th) at all and when I tried reverse with the clutch pedal down, nothing by crunching of gears - not changed anything so something has come adrift somewhere :(

  3. Decided to adjust the clutch cable by a few turns on the wing nut - engine on and I can get it in gear, then a bang noise.
Thought the clutch cable had snapped but with me underneath and the wife pressing the clutch pedal I could see that it was working as it should.
No resistance when pressing the clutch so either thrust bearing or pressure plate I suppose.

    FFS :(

Possible a fork broke off the operating arm? Just as well you're now so practiced whipping the engine out!

  5. Problem is the van is reversed in and hard against a fence panel, plus the drive is angled so to get at the engine is going to be bloody difficult...........

  6. Thanks to those who have helped me on this journey but today I said goodbye to the van for the last time - after the clutch issue the other month, my wife and I have decided that someone else should take the van to the next stage :(

  7. This has been a long journey for you ,
And many would have given up ages ago,
There comes a time to call it a day,
I threw in the Towel because of a noisy thrust bearing o_O I had this terrible urge to put it in one of those crushing machines :D
Good luck with what ever you do now all the best

  10. No camper as the wife will now only use B&B's or hotels!
Will be getting a motorbike instead - will fit in my garage unlike the old camper!!

    What bike are you after.
I really hope it brings you more joy than work.

Seriously... it had to go didn't it? Some things are just doomed, it must be a weight off your mind.
