Hats have been in the world since at least 3000 BC, as an image of a man wearing a hat of straw was discovered in a mural from that time. Since then, hats have served some incredibly diverse purposes, from simple protective wear to help those stuck out in the rain, cold, or hot sun, to indicating status and rank. Who doesn’t recognise a crown as the ultimate mark of royalty? Hats have undergone an immense amount of changes, with varieties appearing all over the world in every possible culture.

Whether for the soldier protecting his skull from incoming damage, the lieutenant making sure that his troops know where to look for direction, or the dapper gentleman in the Top Hat on his way to the opera, everyone has a love and use for hats. Hat Day is the best time for you to break out your favourite headwear, and use them to make a huge impression.

I like a hat :hattip:I look particularly mean in a cowboy hat :

I’ve always fancied myself as a debonair wearer of a Panama hat fleeting from embassy to embassy in the South American sunshine solving complex diplomatic problems over a few glasses of rum accompanied with the best Cuban cigars.

Sadly I was born in the wrong era, wrong class in society and inherently dim :(

  4. In this style - 10/6 .
This is always what comes to mind when I think of buying a hat.
Mind you just got in from a chilly walking the dog - my trapper hat stops my ears from freezing.

  6. On holiday I wear tilly hemp hat with a red white and blue band around it.
They are a brilliant hat insured for life if you lose it they will replace it.
Rainy days a barbour and in Germany for the Christmas markets a German hutte.
    Wide brimed and warm.

  9. When a bought a £300 XJ-8 a few years ago, I thought that for a short while I'd live the dream. (I'm 28) I scoured the local second hand shops and put together a rather sophisticated outfit which involved some very pale flannel trousers, a cravat, blazer and of course a Panama hat. First time out dressed like the Lord of the Manor, the blasted car broke down and I had to spend a couple of hours in a roadside truck stop caravan thing waiting for the breakdown folk. The Jaguar was subsequently replaced with a Rover which has enabled me to get my money's worth out of my stylish new clobber.

I have a hat made out of the bed cushion cover fabric from my bus. Made as a joke Christmas present by one of my daughters. I will wear it at Techenders..

I've got a Tilley but I can't find the guarantee. It's not on the left hand side of my sock draw anymore!

    I have many hats.
By that, I mean I have many collections of things, one, being hats. I think I have around 40 or so, in the attic, including top hats, flat caps and baseball caps. Ironically, I never wear them.
