The VCR actually came along a lot earlier than most people think, first being developed in 1956 and sent into the world. It was until 1970 that this technology actually became readily available for the home user. As anyone who lived through that era knows, the technology absolutely boomed at that time and soon it was part of the world we lived in. Cassette tapes appeared in every home, and people began collecting all their favorite movies in the latest format. But that wasn’t all, as the technology improved hand held recorders became available, and family events began being taken down for posterity. From family holidays to weddings and funerals, everything was being recorded in the VHS format. Even events on TV were being recorded, and what was once a case of ‘miss your show, wait for the rerun’ became a case of ‘I have no idea how to program this VHS recorder to record what I watch’. So ubiquitous was this that it actually became a measuring stick for people’s intelligence “Oh your father will never be able to do that, he can’t even program the VCR!” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I remember when we got our first house we didn' have that much money and we couldn' afford one of those new fangled video recorder. This was the year of the original LIVE AID . However a local shop I think it was Wigfalls in Wakefield was offering a free trial . They came on the Friday and fitted it . We bought 2 tapes and we recorded our favourite acts from live aid . The store came and collected the machine on monday as we said we didn't want one . We still have the original live aid recordings today somewhere in the loft.
Funnily enough we resurrected our old betamax the other day when the kids came to visit. After spending over an hour looking for the connecting cable I was surprised to find that it all still worked. The grandchildren were most amused to see their parents younger than themselves! I must get the tapes onto modern digital media before the thing gives up the ghost.
I’ve got some films that I keep in the loft and play when the wife goes shopping, if anyone wants to borrow some pm me
I’ve got an old cine camera , we used to Lafa so much when my dad or uncle speeded it up or did things in slow motion or reverse Just before my dad died he went on holiday with my mum and took his new Sony camcorder ,sadly he left it on the coach ,never to be seen again along with memories of their last holiday together Compared to prices today they were very expensive , so were video recorders and TVs . You never hear of dodgy videos being passed around the pubs these days do you
Debbie does Dallas was my absolute fav, she must be 87 now, I’ve heard she takes her teeth out these days
