VW T2 Bay 1978 for sale

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by Chris Austins, Jun 1, 2022.

  1. For sale: 1978 VW T2 Bay. MoT until: 02/08/2022 (with no advisories) Tax Exempt and could be registered MoT Exempt too. Currently showing 9650 miles (so will be 109,650). £13,750. Offers/negotiation welcome. More photos available on request.

I acquired Humphrey in 2020 and have enjoyed every trip out in him, no-matter how short!

The T2 was originally a yellow/white however was resprayed to the green you can see prior to my ownership. Nice, sound, solid bus!

The interior looks virtually original and as such it should be expected to have a little wear and tear.

Engine was rebuilt to a 1641cc around 5 years ago now, but there is no receipt for this.

The previous owner owned the bus for around 20 years; I have a number of old MoTs and some receipts with the bus.

I bought an inflatable awning that i will leave with the bus, as well as railing attachments that you can use if you so wish.

I purchased a new 75 amp alternator off justkampers and had it fitted by my local garage.

I've fitted new curtains. I boxed them whilst the T2 was in storage over winter to stop them getting marked.

I've fitted new door cards to the front doors. I've got new seals to fit to the front doors and sliding door, however haven't done so yet.

The T2 has 2 cigarette lighters along with 2 USB charge points, a volt meter and 2 reading lights. These all run off the leisure battery.

There is also a water pump fitted to the sink, which again runs off the leisure battery.

There's a Sony Radio/CD/AUX with 4 speakers, which runs off the main battery.

All battery terminals have quick release clips fitted for ease.

The bus is full of character and cruised along the motorway to Devon and South Wales at 50-55mph.

Always ran on super unleaded too.

    Two sets of keys.

As expected, there's a couple of things that the next owner may wish to do to the bus.

Firstly there are a couple of bits of paintwork needing a touch up. I've included these bits in the photographs as I want to be honest.

There's a little oil leak on the bus and the carb may benefit from a service.

All in all, it's never failed to put a smile on my face. He's a chappy. I'll be sad to see him go but I'm trying to save money up for a house, so downsizing the fleet. Will consider swapping for a T5 or T4 (with cash my way potentially), as I'll either sell on that on to a mate or get rid of the daily driver in replacement of that.

    Viewing welcome.

Bank transfer preferred for payment. If someone wishes to arrange their own courier etc full payment will be required prior to courier attending to collect the van.

Advertised elsewhere so reserve the right to end early if it sells.

Due to the vans age, it's sold as seen and I can't offer a warranty. Viewings and inspections are welcome though!

    Thank you.

P.S. Plenty more photos available, too big for the site at present so will sort that out and add them on.

  6. Still for sale. Weather is glorious too for some camper adventures!

  7. Looks good for the money - surprised you haven't sold it yet - GLWS

  8. Not as much interest as I expected. Must be the current financial fears doing the rounds. ‍♂️

  9. Have you advertised it where prospective camper buyers are looking?

Or just on here where the vast majorirty of us already have campers

  10. It's on Ebay and Facebook. 700 views ages 50 watchers on ebay. Lots of owners telling me it's advertised too cheap and to add another 3-5k on, but not many people coming to see it, few people saying they'll come and not turning up. ‍♂️‍♂️

It'll go eventually. Maybe I need to bugger off to Devon in it with a for sale sign in the back, that'll do it.

  11. Some people whack a garland of plastic flowers around the rear view mirror and sell the dream!
Just Kampers have a free marketplace to advertise stuff, that may also be worth a post.

  12. I don’t know whether it’s too cheap or not. It’s worth what ever someone pays for it but if there’s no interest then that might tell a tale. Ie the market isn’t great and the rules of supply and demand therefore mean it should be cheaper (or hang on till market recovers) I see the bull all the time from people who most likely overprice their own van in their own head and then feel obliged to comment as if they are being undersold or would lose out if they sold their own. Or perhaps I’m overthinking and they are just being supportive and implicating someone’s getting a bargain!
Good luck with the sale but pricing it “right” means pricing it to reflect the market. If there isnt one then it’s not going to happen!

Just check out ebay and filter for SOLD items. I think there was a peak a year or two ago but there are bargains to be had now among the realists. But you never know, pricing a bay is like pinning the tail on a donkey - if someone wants your van whether it's £15k or £25K doesn't seem to matter. More than ever, people are buying into the interior. It's a bit like houses in that respect - old exterior, modern interior. And boats for that matter - out with the wood in with the Farrow and Ball paint hues. AKA London white - never mind if it would sink, look at the lovely cupboards and curtains. Cynic? Moi?

  14. I'm not following trends at all but there's plenty for sale out there, and that goes for sprinters , T5/6 , trannys vitos etc etc ....
I put it down to post-lockdown realisation that Archie and Beatrice with the obligatory 2.5 kids can fly to Forrin parts and have a 'proper' holiday again.
Bought for 20k , sell for 15 , lose 5k and get their drive back -
It was just a stop gap measure to get out and have the Vanlife experience - woo hoo

Good luck, a great van for the money

lets hope and get our sites back ! At a reasonable price.
    Slightly off thread but…
Just had 3-4 weeks in Spain, no need to book in advance, great sites often on a lake with tranquil surroundings , nearby village etc. none were above 20 euros. We have an ACSI card and one site….terrific in woods next to an incredible lake was 18 euros under ACSI but 40 otherwise. ACSI is great but has seasons so need to check it.
One site we stayed at was brilliant just outside Navajas. We intended just a 2 day stay, 18 euros per night. brill location. Lakes cycle tracks etc. Stayed 6 days and got a refund of 18 euros as stayed 5-7 days ! Local train to valencia  3 euros bikes free on a Sunday !
