What’s it worth ?

  1. A friend of mine has decided to part ways with his beetle project. Trying to get an idea of what a fully restored floor pan is worth. New pans finished in gloss black, new front beam with original reconditioned steering box. Comes with v5

  2. Never mind that, serious garage envy..............

  3. Tell me about it !!!

  4. What year of Beetle is it? It looks 70's-ish as it's got IRS, judging from the chassis.

  5. The v5 is early 60’s, at some point had a 72 body fitted. Has a nice early number plate

I don't see Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble or Grubb though ...

  7. Might he be better off selling the chassis/V5 and the body separately? The chassis/V5 is likely more desirable than the 70's body, I would have thought.

Now you say it, I can see what I thought was IRS, isn't.

  8. There’s lots of stuff he bought, all best quality available, engine is in bits, all bead blasted and painted, new heads and pistons from USA, 5 new stock wheels, the list goes on

  9. Have a look on ebay, there is a company advertising restored/refurbed ones for £1300 plus. Yours is available for sale right now ready to go. My neighbour is into kit cars and he says a lot of popular kit cars are based on the Beetle chassis/pan. You could list it on ebay with maybe a reserve around £1300 and see what happens. The body would have a value but needs work, but might appeal to someone looking for a decent one. The engine is another project but with all the parts would be desirable for someone who wants a new engine and is prepared to build it.

  10. I think it's a single one that has been taken apart, I don't think it's two. ;)

There are also people looking for suitable EV conversion material, so the engine (& possibly gearbox depending on the method) would be a separate/surplus item
