The All New, New "What have you done to your Bay today" thread.

  1. Had a day out at Blenheim with some friends. Clutch cable snapped on the way out though so had to nurse it back home, luckily not far.

Spent the evening fitting my spare, all sorted now so ready for some more camping this week, last week before the kids go back to school.

  2. Those waxoyl hand pump things are next to useless
You won't get a decent atomisation and internal coverage
It just splatters into the cavity not covering it all then runs down to the lowest point.

  4. Water will actually condense on the whole of the internal panel
When only certain parts get wax on them the corrosion accelerates on the non covered parts
You can never completely get it everywhere but it makes sense to do the best job possible.

I've used different applicators and different waxes inside lengths of cardboard tubes to test them then cut them in half for a look.
Waxoyl via one of those hand pumps gave the worst coverage.

Considering how much panels, welding and paint cost it's silly to scrimp on cavity waxing!

Started it and got annnoyed at the alternator fan pulley clunking. Noticed the spare washers were off centre as they dropped into a groove in the pulley.
So I filled the groove in the hub worn by the front of the pulley with some MIG weld, and then shaped it with a flap wheel. Stopped the clunking but I think I really should buy a new one.

Took it out for a drive. Five weeks of not driving it and the connections on the coil were dodgy again. Misfiring and constantly showing signs of loose wiring on the coil positive terminal. Like the sensor conputer constantly resetting and causing the dash display to reset to AFR. The AFR computer also managed to shut down and on one occasion the oil pressure light came on (its on a relay connected to a 0 to 100 psi electronic sensor). As it blinked off again and stayed off I knew it was bad connections not oil pressure.

Battery voltages made sense so it wasnt a loose clamp - warning light comes on and gets brighter with revs while the 12 volts goes up to 18 to 20 volts...

Drove it 6 miles all the same just not happy under hard acceleration.

Bought a fuse box and rearranged the wiring to reduce wires hanging off the coil. So now theres a separate fuse for AFR sender, sensors computer and oil pressure relay unit.

All the wires seemed to be doing the correct things when I started it. Will take it for a longer drive tomorrow.

Ok it was the progressive carb choke wire touching the fan housing when I accelerated hard or went over a bump. The insulating sheet I put in years ago had slipped slightly and let the tag hit. I had used an insulated female spade connector but the tag is fixed to a boss in the midlde of the choke heater..
