Rear brakes day today, new shoes and springs. Inky the second time I have been in to play with the rear brakes in 8 years!!!
Never say never, I have had the brakes shoes since I bought the camper 8 years ago so not really a lot of cost. If I do rear discs I will need 15 inch wheels and I don't really want to do that at the moment
This is a brilliant thread! Just bought my Scooby Lump, and no idea what to actually do with it... yet!
Couple of mods done today. Shortened the silicon bend on the inlet pipe. It was a long way into the metal pipe so cut it down to help with it not hitting the firewall. Also added a bit of sound deadening to it (not sure if it's needed) And added sound deadening to the firewall to stop it being a bit rattly under hard acceleration.
Quick question, now I've got an adaptor plate does the top starter bolt need to be longer ? No access to other end from engine bay and it doesn't tighten from starter side, what am I missing? Edit: just spoken with Richard at RJES, I should have screwed in the stud to the adaptor plate before offering/bolting the engine. I can loctite one end as a work around, not ideal but it is the best I can do now to fix it.. or take engine back out. That might help someone. @pkrboo Nice mods. I've got some alloy pipes arriving tomorrow (think you used T25). I had to cut away old heater tubes under the bus tonight ( some get in the way) then the blooming starter but it's moving forward slowly
2 more pipes to identify, both metal, one looks possibly a fuel and the other vacuum but no idea where they go? Anyone help pls Pg
These babies just arrived today , Alloy 38mm with swaged (beaded) ends. Need a bit of filing on the ends but going to offer up. Cost about £45
I've just done a lot of wiring but there's no coil as such and seems much simpler. I've got a q about starter motor. Obviously battery to starter motor and ignition switch (so I've got battery big black black and on solenoid terminal a smaller ignition red/black) but anything else. I've removed 2 wires, heater blower and another live into engine bay. I think I'm doing ok but could do with a heads up, just seems a bit light Pg
It was rjes. From earlier post, i figured one breather loops round to the other side , do I block both? the other one, also a breather?/block off? Pg I should expand on the loom bit. From subaru alternator I've got thick wire to +ve terminal on starter and a solenoid wire. Obviously I need power from battery to starter and have that, my Vw big black wire. Leaves me 3 others, but I only think I need 1, ignition switch to starter +ve. What's bugging me is the old setup is still in my head, wires to coil , fuel pump relay etc, engine loom and so on but it could be it's really as simply as ignition and battery only used from old system. I just seen to have removed loads of wiring.
Don't block any breathers!! Pipe them up into the inlet piping. (See my pics earlier) As for the wiring it should all be labelled or have a diagram with it of what to connect where. Fuel pump is fed from its own relay so you insurance need to make a small loom for that Also to the fans Also to the front end for the warning light and rev counter and coolant gauge etc. Oil pressure switch wire also and the feed form in switch. It really is very simple wiring.
Rjes made my loom and also a front extension everything was clearly marked, all the wiring for the fans and fuel pump was located near the relays.
I looked back at pics but yours look 'open' as well. Have you left them like that? (Page 26 pic I think)
