I really get, shall we say frustrated, when people refer to a vacuum cleaner as a hoover. Or they are doing the hoovering. Ive just seen an offer on Freecycle for an Electrolux hoover. It’s not a hoover you pillock, it’s and Electrolux vacuum cleaner. God give me strength
Because common usage has led to ‘hoovering’ being used in relation to the act of vacuuming - or vacuum cleaning, since cleaning is the correct adjective as we’re not specifically and intentionally creating a vacuum, it’s just part of the process of creating suction required to clean - irrespective of the brand of device used due to the brand’s market share when the choice was much more limited. And vacuum cleaning is just too much of a mouthful. And it’s too much effort for me now the wife’s left and I can’t afford a cleaner (she hired the cleaner) except for hoovering up the odd mess that can’t be kicked to one side. And anyway, isn’t ‘Henrying’ a reference to some kind of self abuse or a deviant act or other? Or maybe some slang for Toff-bothering’? I can imagine saying “I spent the best part of an afternoon siemensing the carpet at the weekend” though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What really gets my goat about this thread is the idlers who can't be bothered to go into settings on Tapatalk and disable the subversive advertising of their particular mobile!!! If you want to know I'm using Mrs P's phone.
